Supernatural – Hi, I’m Bobby, and I’m a ghost

'Supernatural' does 'Being Human' meets 'American Horror Story' in an episode that brings what promises to be a formidable ally to the Winchester boys.

- Season 7, Episode 19 - "Of Grave Importance"

“Alright now. I can kill werewolves, fix a pinto and bake cornbread. I will be damned if I cannot get Zen.” – Bobby

Bobby’s back as a member of the team, which was pretty much inevitable. Way back when we started getting hints that he was hanging around, it was pretty evident that we’d see him come back somehow. Well, I don’t think anyone really thought he’d come back in full-form, but this is pretty darn close. I believe we had some commenters noting that they were happy Bobby was gone when he’d died, which I thought was odd. At one time I’d said it looked like the show was slowly killing off secondary characters as the series comes to an inevitable close; Bobby being present sort of puts that theory into question.

What was interesting to see in this episode is that, along with Bobby finding his Zen and being able to move things and become visible, we see that it’s certainly possible for him to truly “die” as a ghost. I’m pretty certain that aspect was shown to us on purpose, as otherwise it’d mean Bobby is basically an invincible force around the Winchesters, and he has nothing to fear. That and the possible loss of the flask.

I get why Dean is angry at Bobby for what he did, but will they all get over it at some point? Even with those couple of weaknesses Bobby has as a ghost, having him with the boys is a massive asset. In fact, you’d think more hunters would have been found having ghosts along with them to help, right? It would actually make a lot of sense to have Sam and Dean meet another hunter who confesses he has the same kind of help, and that maybe they find out the ghost helping them is someone they once knew … like Rufus!

What do you think? Is Bobby being back a good thing or are you sorry to see him back in what looks like full form?

With only three episodes left this season, does anyone else find it odd that we’re barely hearing a peep about the leviathans lately? Unless the majority of the leviathan storyline will be wrapped up in the final two episodes, I’m at a loss for what would make for a climactic ending to the season.

I’m not sure knowing Bobby can die as a ghost is all that significant. We always knew that when burning the bones failed, burning the object the ghost is attached to will work. Unless Bobby’s Zen protects the flask, but even then, I don’t know that Sam and Dean would have the power to kill Bobby’s ghost in another way. I can’t see him staying around for long, though; they will resolve this and Bobby will be at rest.

i had some of the same thoughts and was a bit annoyed at how the winchesters were going to hang around with a (killable or not) pretty invincible friend but then i remembered… it’s not really the first time. they hanged and had enough help from castiel a lot of times, and angels are about a hundred times more powerful than ghosts.

now true, castiel was a busy angel so he wasn’t there 100% of the time, and back then he was there because it was apocalypse/demons/angels stuff, but still, the boys have had MEGA-STRONG-SUPERNATURAL allies in the past, it’s not -that- weird that they have bobby back again.

that if he doesn’t go away soon, which, by the tone of the episode’s end, sounded like he will.
