Lots of little stories make for a satisfying New Girl

Lots of “incidents” in this chapter of New Girl.

• Poor Nick: Dumped by Julia. And as a result he goes into one of his freaktastic freak outs.
• Conversely, Schmidt is seducing Cece nine ways to Sunday, ultimately getting left in her car (courtesy wind crack, thankfully) while she attends a party.
• Winston embarrassingly recreates his childhood “Brown Lightning” persona during the confrontation with Brianna’s two moms, calling their daughter out for being a bully. (More on this later.)
• Jess is “brought into the secret teacher fold” by Tanya (Rachael Harris) instead of getting lambasted for her behavior and treatment of her student Brianna.

Have I covered all the main characters? Yes … I have. And what’s interesting about that is the writers’ abilities to put together an entire 22-odd minutes of show diligently calling out each and every one of them. That’s a lot of story to put out there. Previous New Girl stints have been surrounded by the wacky situations, but we were treated to a lot of cohesiveness this time around. Clever and interesting plot points, not just throw away fluff. This was a well rounded episode where everyone got equal time.

Notes:

• Julia is out of the picture now where Nick is concerned. It’s a direct result of her butting heads with Jess a few episodes back. This isn’t specifically called out, but we all know that’s what’s happened.
• What was the point of Brianna’s two moms? That was just a random aside that was thrown out there for no reason whatsoever … the one glaring writing flaw of this chapter. Seemed pretty forced … like right-down-our-throats forced. Pointless.
• Cece is digging Schmidt. We saw it a couple times in the show. We heard it directly from her a few times as well. (See some of the quotes below.) And we saw it on her face in the restaurant at the end. Who would have ever thought that? Of course, Schmidt will get dumped by her and there will be an uneasy friendship to take its place, with Schmidt knowing where he stands with Cece going forward. Count on it.
• With Rachel Harris now having a couple New Girl episodes under her belt, does this mean we’ll be seeing more of her as a semi-regular on the show?

“So … are you going to ‘three-peat’ this ho?” — Jess

“You may want to change that” — Jess suggesting the “I’ve Got Wood” caption on a class project be altered

“Is this one of those fortune telling cactuses?” — Winston to Nick on the cactus Julia gave him

“I’m like a sexual snowflake: Each night is a unique experience.” — Schmidt to Cece

“Wanna party with Havarti?” — Schmidt
“Fine. Gimme the damned cheese …” — Cece

“Why is your voice so deep like a man’s? Your happiness seems like a mask.” — Jess’ student Brianna to Jess
