American Idol – The auditions are (finally) over

We made it, folks. Portland and St. Louis were the last two stops on the ever-chugging 'Idol' train and I'm glad they're over. Let's head to Hollywood.

- Season 11, Episode 6 & 7 - "Auditions #6 & #7 - Portland / St. Louis"

*whew*

Finally. The last of the hometown auditions.

I’m not as exhausted as I was at the close of last year’s audition process (talk about someone who was really spent; last year really did me in) but this season’s auditions have been doozies in their own right. To the last, I’m done with’em.

I’m glad to see Hollywood coming up on American Idol with its 200-some-odd hopefuls amped up to begin. So let’s get to gettin’.

But, before we do, I want to call out a few aspirants from this week and see what they were about.

Portland Audition Notes:

  • Nobody in Portland really stood out for me. I wasn’t impressed with anyone … no one struck my fancy.
  • I told you I was a bit tired of the auditions … and now I’m going to show you just how tired I am. At one point after David Weed’s audition, I actually believed — just for a moment — he was going to get through. I can’t quite place my finger on why, but I honestly believed that:

Portland Quote:

“I didn’t puke or pee my pants …” — Ben Harrison after his audition

St. Louis Audition Notes:

  • A very strange thing happened at the beginning of the episode. How many noticed it I have no idea, but I’m willing to be not too many did. They were playing my theme song during Carrie Underwood’s montage, “Where Is My Mind?” by The Pixies.
  • Reis Kloeckener and his sweet, sweet voice are going to get swallowed up whole. Mark my words.
  • Johnny Keyser? He’s got the music in him — and if you’ll remember, Taylor Hicks did this same tune for his initial audition albeit better. Still … dude’s got the music in him. I’m keeping my eye on this guy:

St. Louis Quote:

“To hear Steven Tyler say he loved my voice … oh my God …” — Ethan Jones after his audition

It seems like this years auditions went by SO fast!!!!
Looking forward to Hollywood week…bring it on I say!!!

I only really saw the 1st 1/2 of the Portland auditions, I was on the phone plotting with a pal how to get better bus service in our hood.

I missed last nights eposode as I was working a fun lil par-tay of Microsoft folks from around the world….when a party has an OPEN bar total silliness ensues, so the end of the night was hilarious!!!

I might have more to say after I catch up….you’ve been warned ;)

Funny, I was surprised this was the last of the auditions. Oh, I was ready to be done with them, but for some reason I remember weeks and weeks and weeks last year.

I still haven’t seen anyone I really like better than one or two on the first episode of the season. I was afraid we were seeing the best then, and I still am.

David Weed could make a reasonable living at the cattle calls of Off-Broadway. Ditto Baby Face Ben. The right face in the right place at the right time could impress a casting director, and until then there is always the chorus.

Johnny Keyser may have the music in him, but I would like him to let it out a little more. Judge’s chatter during the audition may not have distracted him, but it did me.
