Homeland – Carrie starts a very dangerous relationship

This week on Homeland, “Semper I,” the story jumps forward three weeks. At first, I wasn’t thrilled about that, but by the end of the episode I thought it was a brilliant decision by the writers.

I was hesitant with the time jump because I thought that Carrie would find out something from watching Brody. In the end, he didn’t do anything suspicious and to be honest how exciting would it be to watch Carrie observing the Brody family week after week. It was painful to watch her struggle without the surveillance as so much of her was tied to that task. What was she supposed to do each night without the Brody reality show to watch?

Thankfully, it wasn’t within her to give up. Carrie is definitely dedicated to her job and even more so her belief that Brody will betray his country.

How many of you thought that Brody shot Mike? I know that was my first thought, though I was skeptical the show would take that route. It was still an eye-opener that he shot a buck in his backyard when he had a house full of people. A definite sign that he continues to be disconnected from reality. After over a month of being home, Jessica finally did the right thing and insisted that he get help. She is in such a delicate and somewhat terrifying position. I can’t even image how difficult it must be.

In the end, I wasn’t sure if Brody was really going to a support group or not. I’m glad that he did, because Carrie inserting herself into his actual, real life is going to be a risky but thrilling relationship to watch. Will she end up sleeping with him? She has sex issues herself and she has been watching him struggle with his. This relationship is going to be dangerous for her personally and professionally. I don’t see it ending well for either of them as the two of them had more chemistry in a few seconds than Brody and Jessica have ever shown.

Other thoughts and questions:

• Does Brody know about Jessica and Mike? I’m guessing no, but he is suspicious because Nazir told him his wife would be unfaithful and Mike was the man around the house while he was gone.
• Are the visions Brody is having part of his brainwashing coming through or memories that kept him “grounded” while captured?
• How deep does this terrorist plot go that they had surveillance on the professor? And, how could Carrie not take precautions to prevent them from being figured out? Scary stuff!
• Who is the woman working with the professor? She seemed to be calling the shots and reassuring him that everything would work out.
•  So, David put a “spy” on Carrie, but then made up with her? What is his game plan? It doesn’t seem strictly professional, I certainly hope that he doesn’t want back in her pants.
• I have been so impressed with Morena Baccarin as Jessica that I’m almost over the cancellation of V. She is doing an amazing job in such a difficult and emotional role. I can’t imagine anyone else being Jessica.
