Revenge – Greed will get you every time!

Only two episodes in and I'm hooked on 'Revenge' ... are you too? It is SO good!

- Season 1, Episode 2 - "Trust"

This week’s Revenge, “Trust,” kept me glued to the screen. I actually appreciate all the characters on the show, even those who are evil. That is a rare feat. Usually, there is at least one weak or annoying character. After the premiere, some readers expressed concern about whether the show could sustain the revenge theme or not. I’m not sure, but I’m going to enjoy the ride!

This week, Emily targeted her “Uncle” Bill. He used inside information to make money for the investment firm, but blamed and testified against her father for his actions. I particularly like how Revenge uses the flashbacks to show how Emily knows that the person lied when testifying. This isn’t just a situation of her believing in her father’s innocence, but that she was there to see that the guilty got off without punishment.

Emily’s revenge against Bill was perfect. She used his weakness against him. The way the revenge played out was fun to watch. It was clear she was using insider information to set him up, but how was she going to get the stock price to plummet? And, without Nolan or her getting caught.  I really want and need to watch this episode again — a sign of a great plot.

While Emily was working to bring Bill down, she further ingrained herself into the Grayson family. I’m glad to see that Victoria is suspicious of Emily, because it creates some risk to what Emily is doing. Will Victoria figure out what is going on? I guess we know she doesn’t before her son, Daniel, gets shot on the beach. Though, she clearly had issues with Emily at the engagement party.

I’m still surprised that no one followed up on what happened to Amanda after her father was imprisoned and especially after he died. Maybe they were too shamed to keep tabs on her. But, also … shocked that no one recognizes her or at least sees a resemblance? Though, these issues bother me and I would like an explanation, I’m enjoying the show enough that I don’t let these questions interfere with my appreciation of the show.

Two episodes and I’m hooked! Are you?

Other stuff:

  • Daniel Grayson is smitten with Emily, but does Emily have feelings for him? Or, is she just playing him?
  • I really want Jack to figure out that Emily is actually Amanda. I can wait a bit for that reveal, but I hope it is by mid-season!
  • Is Nolan befriending Jack because of Amanda?
  • I loved that Nolan said he would give Jack his boat back at the end of the season. That and his purchase of the house for Emily showed a softer side of Nolan than we saw in the Pilot.
  • Will Jack and Declan’s father die?

One Response to “Revenge – Greed will get you every time!”

Emily’s public actions shouldn’t draw the attention of the SEC, because she lost a lot of her own money in the deal. It’s just that Bill lost much more of his own and his clients’ funds, and can’t even report her to the SEC, because he acted illegally himself. I am presuming that Emily’s 49% stake in NolCorp is hidden or in trust, and not a matter of public record.

I believe it’s been 17 years since any of the guilty parties saw Emily, and she’s worked hard to transform herself totally from that child. She can’t grow a goatee, but then again, she wasn’t the one engaged to one of them. Spoiler: According to some of the advance press, someone paid off the court-appointed psychologist to have her committed to an institution. I doubt they ever expected to see the girl again.

If Nolan showed his real personality to Jack, I think they could actually become friends. It’s the thoughtless, ridiculous mask he wears for everyone except Emily that repels the rich and poor alike.
