Breaking Bad – Fight time

The latest season of 'Breaking Bad' just keeps getting better, and this week was highlighted by an epic fight. Did it signal the end of a relationship?

- Season 4, Episode 9 - "Bug"

Season four of Breaking Bad has been great since the outset, but I feel like it is really starting to take off after this week’s episode. I don’t know what else I could ask for from an episode of AMC’s suspenseful drug drama. There was a great fight, a tense meeting, Skyler once again showing her resourcefulness, and a good old fashioned drug shoot out.

How much fun was that shootout? If we have learned one thing this season it’s that Gus Fring is a grade A bad ass. I don’t care how sure I was that someone wasn’t going to kill me, I don’t think I would walk into oncoming gunfire. What if the dude missed and hit him? It certainly gave Gus even more credibility as a great character on this show, though. Walter certainly has shown an ability to take charge and intimidate, but if he is really going to overthrow Gus, as seems to be the popular opinion, I think he has a way to go to carry the mantle.

I mean, come on, do you really see Gus and Mike getting into the kind of physical altercation that Walt and Jesse had at the end of this episode? It was a fairly epic knock down drag out melee. Walt and Jesse’s relationship has always been volatile, with a lot of ups and downs, but I worry that it is finally broken. I can’t really blame Jesse; Walt is asking a whole lot of him, trying to get him to kill Gus for him. It’s been evident all season that Jesse is only beginning to get over the death of Gale at his own hands. For Walt to ask him to kill again … it’s just too much.

Finally, I have to talk about Skyler. She gets a lot of flack from fans of the show, but I’ve always kind of liked her, and I’ve always loved her resourcefulness. Say what you will, but she regularly does what she has to do. It was interesting seeing Ted back in the picture, and I’m not feeling so good about his future. Skyler bailed him out with her clever plan for the time being, but Ted seems like he’s going to cause some more trouble before all is said and done. I’m wondering if Walt and Sklyer are going to have to get him out of the picture permanently. If push comes to shove, I don’t doubt that Skyler is capable of it. I’m not sure there is anything beyond her capabilities.

Yeah I’ll give it to Skyler for this week’s resourcefulness. I wonder what’s going to come of Jesse heading to Mexico, though. Will he still head down there and do his damnedest to deliver the formula right? What the hell does that mean for Walt once the Mexicans have the formula? There’s just no way things can end up with the cartel owning the blue-ice formula, so I can’t wait to see how that goes down.
