Sweetie Darling! Patsy and Edina are back!

It's been seven long years, but Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone are back to grace our tellys once again this Christmas. How 'Absolutely Fabulous'!

Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley reunite for "Absolutely Fabulous"

After a couple of weeks of earthquakes and hurricanes, there’s finally a glimmer of sunshine as photos are leaked from the set of the new “series” of Absolutely Fabulous!

Yes, Patsy and Edina are finally coming back to the telly in a three-episode Christmas special. The photos that have been released show Pats and Eddy shopping at all of the fashionable London boutiques, with Eddy apparently denied access to the Stella McCartney shop (while Patsy is later seen with a shopping bag from the store). In the third episode, it is rumored that Eddy and Pats will somehow be involved with preparations for the 2012 Summer Olympics. Many surprising guest cameos can be expected.

It’s been seven long years since the ladies have graced our television screens, and we could certainly do with more than three episodes, but as long as the quality of the writing is up to par with the best of the episodes that will be consolation enough. No word on what else Pats and Eddy will be up to, or how their lives have changed over the last several years (it doesn’t look like the economy has hampered their fashion sense), but we can expect the entire cast — including Julia Sawalha (Saffy), June Whitfield (Mother) and Jane Horrocks (Bubble) — to return.

Fans have been wishing and hoping for more adventures of Patsy Stone (Joanna Lumley) and Edina Monsoon (Jennifer Saunders) and it’s great that series creator Saunders (who recently underwent treatment for breast cancer) has gotten the bug to write for these beloved characters once again. If you’re not up on everything AbFab, reruns of the original series can be seen on the Logo network. The Christmas special will air on the BBC in England and on BBC America and Logo in the US (although no specific air date has been set). We will definitely be there with our champers, smoked salmon and nibbly things when the show returns!
