America’s Got Talent – Learn which acts are going through to the next round

Last night, the power shifted from the judges to America. My four picks to go to the next round after seeing last night's live show were: Dezmond Meeks, Fearless Flores Family, Anna Graceman, and Sandou Trio Russian Bar. Not surprisingly, I didn't get 4/4.

- Season 6, Episode 14 - "Four acts advance to the top 24"

America's Got Talent

First up to learn their fate were Fearless Flores Family, Duo Aero, and Snap Boogie. Piers thinks that Duo Aero will go home and doesn’t know which of the other two acts will go through. After the usual way-too-long-dramatic pause, Nick announced that Snap Boogie is going to the semi-finals. I was quite surprised that the Flores Family didn’t go through so I turned to Twitter to see what was up. A few people commented that last night, they noticed that the young girl had blood dripping into an eye from an head injury that happened during the stunt. I missed that, but seeing a young girl get injured by the act could have made viewers give their votes to someone else. Who wants to see an act that injures young kids even if it’s incredibly amazing?

Then, Nick interviewed Cedric the Entertainer about NBC’s new game show “It’s Worth What?” which premieres next week on July 19. Then it was time for the Orville segment that shows the performers chillin’ in the Orville Lounge after last night’s live show. Before the next results, we had to watch Avril Lavigne perform two songs. The AGT sound department failed with this performance as Avril sounded like she was a mile away and the instruments were louder than her voice. Not good.

Don’t know about you but I would prefer that results show be either 30 minutes and no guest performers or stay an hour-long but that the guest performers be past contestants. You?

Finally, we got back to the results. Squonk Opera, Sandou Trio Russian Bar, and J. Chris Newberg were asked to the stage. Howie implied in his “Chris you will have a career no matter what happens here” comments that he thought Chris wouldn’t be voted through. He then said that Squonk Opera might be too weird for America and that he believed Russian Bar would go through. Howie was right; Sandou Trio Russian Bar is going through! The trio promises that next time, they will do something quite different. Will America be ready to support them if they are doing something other than on the Russian bar?

Dezmond Meeks, Echo of Animal Gardens, and Anna Graceman were up next. Sharon claimed that she was confused and worried because Dezmond and Anna were called up at the same time, meaning that one of these amazing acts would not go through. Anna Graceman learned that she would be part of the semi-finals. She got quite emotional, thanked everyone for voting, and said that she felt special. Howie quickly reminded her what he told her after the audition: people will talk about her and that her world would change. Both happened.

The cast of the musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert took the stage. For the viewers who knew nothing about the main storyline of the show, this performance must have been quite confusing as it had a guy dance and lipsynch while three ladies dressed in silver dresses sang, and background dancers/singers wore rain gear and held an umbrella while a few others were dressed in colorful cupcakes costumes. This doesn’t make sense, eh?!

When the commercial break was over, we got confirmation that AGT was coming back for a seventh season as the promo asked people to check online for info on how to audition.

Finally, the last three acts were asked to the stage: Those Funny Little People, The Fiddleheads, and Miami All Stars. Nick announced that Those Funny Little People were not going through. Piers rejoiced, so did I (I don’t get that act, it’s not funny).

It seems that the producers had something to do with the Fiddleheads’ performance last night. It wouldn’t be the first time where the producers pushed a certain type of song or stage setting on performers and that it ended up having them be sent home. Remember the kid who danced à la Kevin Bacon in Footloose last year? I recall the procuders made him perform an High School Musical bit which ended up in not so stellar comments from the judges and the kid mentioning that it was the producers’ idea. The producers should stay away from the acts and let the performers perform as they want so that we really see if they have talent and what is needed to make it in this business.

The judges had to decide which act between the Fiddleheads and Miami All Stars would go through. It’s without much surprise that Sharon and Piers voted for Miami All Stars as all judges agreed last night that the Fiddleheads were not at their best as they made a bad song choice. We didn’t get to hear what would have been Howie’s vote.

I got a score of 2 out of 4 this week. How well did you do with your predictions? The four acts going through to the semi-finals are: Snap Boogie, Sandou Trio Russian Bar, Anna Graceman, and Miami All Stars. It’s great to see diversity amongst the act.

Next week, we continue with Top 48 performances.
