It’s no secret I have rules. Rules for lots of things. Life. Situations. Socialization. Having fun. Eating. Whining. A whole lotta of things.
Some are good … some bad … others are middle of the road.
Today, students, we’re going to talk about one of my many rules: a printing rule. It got passed down from some wizened sage who taught me quite a bit about the ink and paper industry. (I had the pleasure of teaching him a few things, too, in support of the saying “You’re never too old to learn something new.”)
And what was this golden printing rule?
“Just make sure the name, address and phone numbers are right.
Anything else you can deal with.”
Truth speakin’. Good stuff. Some of my unintentional printing mistakes have tested this disclaimer and, believe it or don’t, it’s held water lo these many, many years, I’m proud to say.
And then The Simpsons come along and, for the first time that I can ever recall, balk at this sage saying. They’ve systematically swept the saying out the door, caring not for tradition and steadfastness.
In case you haven’t heard, Kristen Schaal (Louise on Bob’s Burgers) was the unwitting victim of some unfortunate proofreader at The Simpson’s camp. She guest appeared on the show May 8th and her name was misspelled in the credits. And Bart’s chalkboard antics conveyed a pretty spiffy apology despite whom-so-ever’s best efforts at schplonking her name.
The point? Isn’t it obvious? My world has eroded just a little bit. One of the stalwart cornerstones of knowledge I’ve stood by for years has been excoriated by an animated television program. Just another example of what I’ve written about a few times before:
