Vampire Diaries – All in the family

There was a theme running through tonight's episode: family. It was about loyalty, love and sacrifice, and not everyone made it out alive. One family in particular is a lot smaller since the events in this episode played out.

- Season 2, Episode 21 - "The Sun Also Rises"

Most of the theories for who would die in tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries hinged on either John or Jenna … but not both of them! I’m sad to see Jenna go because she and Alaric had potential, but I can also see how ridiculous it would be for the whole town to either be a supernatural being or know about them. John’s death was written on the wall; there was really no storyline left for him and it’s no surprise that he sacrificed himself for Elena. We knew she wouldn’t turn (yet) so this was a nice way out of that situation.

I may be the most gullible viewer on the planet, but I still have some warm fuzzy feelings for Elijah. Here’s the thing — I don’t really blame Elijah for what he did. The guy’s carrying around 500 years of pain and vengeful feelings. Then, he finds out that his family may be able to be brought back to life. Why should he continue to help protect someone else’s family when he can save his own? I don’t see him suddenly aligning with Klaus, although I suppose Klaus also won’t give up the bodies all too readily, because then he knows Elijah will probably stake him (or dagger him, as the case may be) and be done with it. Elijah may need to keep Klaus around indefinitely, and that makes Elijah Klaus’s bitch for another 500 years.

Now, my theory about how the cure for the werewolf bite will be revealed needs to be revised a bit, since Klaus yanked Jules’ still beating heart from her changing body. Unless Bonnie and Jeremy are still poring through the grimwoires and happen to stumble upon it, there’s no one left alive who knows the cure: that if a vampire bites the werewolf that bit him, he heals. Probably Damon doesn’t even have to suck Tyler dry; just a little taste, as long as he has the blood in him, will be enough to heal him. Maybe Damon will just go berserk and attack Tyler and find out by accident.

What do you think — how’s it all going to play out  in next week’s finale?

Well, Jules knew Tyler liked Caroline and she honestly seemed to want to help him, so she could have told him the cure for a werewolf bite, on the off chance that he had an OOPSIE and bit Caroline. Your theory could be right and Tyler could deliver the news.

I have always thought that Elijah was going to tell the Salvatore brothers how to cure the bite. Now I think he is going to do it because he “owes” them. Maybe he’ll “send a message” of some sort?

Are we SURE Jenna is dead? I thought they purposefully left that a little unclear…although she looked pretty dead. Poor Alaric. Now we’ll have to have a mourning period before he can get hot and heavy with anyone else. A shame. I hope the next one is a little sexier then Jenna. Is he going to step in as caretaker for the “kids”?

We are supposed to believe Jenna is dead, that’s for sure. They put flowers on her grave, remember? I’m guessing she’s dead, but there will have to be a new character for Alaric since they killed off all the adults … unless Alaric wants Tyler’s cougar mom or the sheriff! :-)

Does Elijah even know Damon was bit? I can’t wait to see how it all plays out!
