CommercialClack – Eggs, Peeps, and all things Easter!

It's Easter weekend! What's in your basket? Please don't tell Tara and Michael "marshmallow peeps."

Tara: Did you know that a 1999 study showed that marshmallow peeps, while being cute are ” insoluble in acetone, water, diluted sulfuric acid, and sodium hydroxide?” Yep. Each was tried, and the peep survived. So pretty much if you haven’t even eaten one since 1972, it’s probably still in your stomach! Happy Easter Michael!

Michael: Holy granule-encrusted nails on the chalkboard, Batman! Peeps are relentless!

Tara: Curiously, we couldn’t find any commercials for Peeps, but we did find a couple of cute ones for that other Easter favorite, the Cadbury Chocolate Egg.

Tara: I, for one, am completely helpless in the face of that little kitty. This has always been a cute ad campaign, and they’ve been genius to stick with it (in different variations) all these years. Since it only happens seasonally, just when you start to get sick of it, the holiday’s over.

Michael: Thankfully …

Tara: I must confess, I’ve not tried a Cadbury egg, because the middle is just so … visually eggy. Of course it’s not whites and yolks, but it sure as hell looks like it is. That doesn’t spell “sweet delicious treat” to me.

Michael: Truth be told, these things turn my stomach. There’s not one single thing that attracts me to them.

Tara: Blurgh! It just looks so real! The consistency is too much of a visual for me.

Michael: I’m right there with you. Easterish candy isn’t appealing if it’s oozing at me, you know what I mean?

Tara: Yes! Give me green apple and cinnamon jelly bellies anytime.

Michael: And I’ll take the egg-colored malted milk balls, thank you.

Tara: Wait! Do you mean to say if we get those simple things for Easter, we’ll both be happy? Unheard of!

Michael: Absurd!

. . . . .

Is there a reason we broke into that tune from Fiddler On The Roof … ???

I’ve always loved that Cadbury commercial. The llama was my favorite, but when they added the kitty, the llama had to settle for second favorite!

I love Cadbury eggs! The caramel ones are awesome, especially if you don’t like the white and yellow filling, which can be a little too sweet.

I recently made s’mores out of Easter peeps. It was great! After a few seconds in the microwave, they explode! :-)

Fortunately, regardless of their insolubility, the peeps probably exit your stomach the same way a nickel or dime would.

I had my first Caramel Cadbury Egg this year, and it is ambrosia!! They need to be about the size of the Robin Egg Maltballs for me to be comfortable with the serving size, but the lick-able caramel just might make the sugar coma worthwhile. And who can argue with the Cadbury chocolate. What a sweet cure for Tara’s eggy adversion.

Well, tomorrow my oldest and dearest friend is staying the night for some gal time. Her fave was the Cadbury egg. I’ll buy her one, and take a bite and see…

I don’t like the original Cadbury eggs, but the caramel filled ones are scrumptious.

My favorite childhood Easter candy was this… well, they were colored and shaped to look like over easy eggs, but they were this quickly dissolving, sugary almost marzipan-like… thing, with a very, very thin layer of chocolate on the bottom. I have no idea what they were, but I adored them. I only got maybe three in my basket each year, so I cherished every nibble.
