The first season of Off the Map comes to a close with just about every character involved in some type of minor cliffhanger. What would Minard’s response be? Would Brenner’s patient make it? And what decision will Keaton make when, either way, he will be haunted by the outcome for the rest of his life? At least with Cole and Zee, you know someone got a happy ending.
I kinda hate that Clark gave up the way that she did. She is obviously high enough on the transplant list to actually have the previous (sadly unviable) heart designated to her, and would thus be in good shape to get another. I get that she doesn’t want to be stuck in a hospital in the immediate future, but trading a couple of (theoretical) months in New York for the rest of her life? Seems like a easy trade to me.
It was obvious who Keaton called. I was actually surprised that the scene happened in this episode … I figured the idea of Keaton buying Ryan a new heart might just sit out there as a mystery until season two, but instead, no. Jonah made a really good point, about where a potential heart might come from, and I’m afraid what that means for Keaton if he follows through with it. Especially if he checks to see if Abbey is a match.
How could you not love the mother when she looked at her husband and said, “It’s not a choice?” It was instantaneous, to the point that she truly didn’t see it as a decision with options. She heard what was happening, and was set in what she was going to do. Forgive me if you think it was clichéd, but I thought it was very cool. Until the part where she talks about how she’s be leaving a part of her with him … That was just heartbreaking.
It is a shame that Off the Map is as precariously on the bubble for renewal as it is. It certainly isn’t without its problems, but I think that, especially in the last five or so episodes, that the show really found its voice. The characters became more fully formed, and the dynamics between each of them had finally evolved into something that made sense. Enough of the episode was left as a cliffhanger, but not really in ways that we couldn’t figure out what happened. Or, at the least, determine which way we would have wanted it to go.
For the record, my ending included Minard telling Fuller he’s an idiot, going through all of the reasons that they wouldn’t make sense. And then she kisses him.
Notes & Quotes
Favorite show! Actors are amazing. Stories are so interesting. Thanks for such a wonderful show. Cant wait for MORE!!!!!
. Or, at the least, determine which way we would have wanted it to go.
I think that’s the brilliance of the way this ended, that we can each of us decide how we want it to end. And if the show doesn’t came back, at least things are right in our version of it.
In my scenario, Clark gets a new heart and Matteo lives. (I have the horrible feeling that if it gets renewed, Matteo bites it and his heart is a match for her. How convenient Jonah just happens to already be there.)
And Minard accepts Fuller’s hug and then tells him she wants to go back to the old status quo. In 13 short episodes, he’s gone from being a man-ho to true love with Alma to a ONS with Minard to thinking he wants a relationship with her. He needs to spend some time in a bromance with Charlie getting himself together before he’s ready for someone as complicated as Minard.
I wish I care more about Zee and Cole because at least they got a happy ending. Maybe if they had actually written a storyline for Zee, I would have cared.
Too bad it’s on the bubble. There are sixty zillion cop shows on TV right now and too many of them seem interchangable. I have the feeling ABC will keep Body of Proof, another cop clone, instead of Off The Map.
Well, all I can say is that every year a really good show comes along and if I love it then it usually is cancelled. None of my “omg, I hate this show” ever seem to bite the dust.
Off The Map was interesting, nice scenes, interaction with an other culture well presented.Hate to say it… but this was my pick for no.1 this season. Getting very tired of smart ass cop shows over and over.
I agree with you. I have really enjoyed this series so far, being a nurse makes me enjoy it more I think. I’m not much on cop shows either. I loved the series Jericho and it didn’t make it either and I truly expected it to be a hit. Waiting to see what happens with “Off The Map”.
Awesome show! I hope that it comes back next season. So many shows don’t get the proper chance. It is unfair how the Nielsen ratings only get the demographics from certain areas and alot of people like reality tv instead of good television drama.
Unfortunately we know that at least 2 of the characters on the show will not be with us if it is allowed to continue because those actors are on different shows now. They may have shot a few episodes before departing that span into the 2nd season. With that being said, with any new show it takes time to develop characters and for all of us to get to know them and decide who we root for and who we hate. This is a well written show. Sometimes it is a little implausible with some of the things that happen to the people they need to save and rescue but overall a great show. My wife has vowed to swear of watching TV again if they cancel this show

The actors in question signed their new pilot in second position to Off the Map … That is to say that if OTM gets picked up, they are obligated to their original show first, and then Reconstruction is left looking for two new leads.
However, I really don’t think that Reconstruction has anything to worry about. Your wife will be disappointed I think.
