Vampire Diaries – The kiss and the diss

I loved this episode of 'The Vampire Diaries' so much, I'm having trouble forming coherent sentences ... beyond my totally inspired title, that is. I can't decide whether to squee with girlish delight, cover my eyes, cheer, cringe, cry ... I think I need to do them all.

- Season 2, Episode 16 - "The House Guest"

Caroline and Matt — she has to mindwipe him. He’s so keyed up there’s not another choice. I can’t believe the range of emotions those two went through in the course of one episode; they were so cute kissing up on stage, and props to Zach Roerig for switching to disgust, surprise, horror and grief all in one scene. Kiss and diss for this couple!

Did anyone else think that he was going to die and that Caroline was going to turn him?

Back to the mindwipe: With Isobel at the door, Jenna’s bound to have the whole truth come slopping down upon her, and that would leave no main character in the dark. Are the secrets important? Not sure, but having the entire main cast in on the supernatural fun would change the dynamic a lot.

This episode was so well-directed and shot, from the scene with Luka, Katherine and Damon to Dr. Martin going postal at the grill. Seamless and beautiful and so well-timed.

I really didn’t think I was going to like having Katherine around all that often, but I loved her in tonight’s episode. We’ve seen the flashbacks, we know her baggage and why she’s looking out for number one, but it’s still fun to watch it come to life on the screen. She knew Damon would die if he used the dagger on Elijah, but she didn’t care, yet she’s happy to try to seduce him (with a very nice diss from Damon, who I really thought would do it just for the Elena fantasies). What a piece of work! And even I fell for the very clever Katherine-Elena switcheroo, just like Jonas did. Only I didn’t end up dead, so yay for me.

Luka, no one will miss you; Bonnie, I’m glad you got your powers back (and that you know how to kill Klaus, which I can’t believe I have to wait to find out about) and the blessing from Elena so you could do your kissing; and Jenna, WTF? I cannot begin to express in words how above you Alaric is, yet still you give him the diss after he professes his love? You apparently smoked way too much of that pot in grad school, and I do hope you use that parent term loosely, ’cause your high school aged charge is shacking up with her boyfriend like every night. Yeah, well done.

Do I really have to wait until April 7th to see this all play out? Between Isobel, the Klaus stuff and the big werewolf showdown, we’ve got a lot to look forward to and unless the order was for more episodes than last season, we’ve only got six episodes left. I think I’ll need to watch with an empty bag next to me, to breathe in when I start to hyperventilate.
