Supernatural – Facing your past. It’s awesome…

A series of mysterious murders find the boys making a stop in Jersey, where the case quickly gets more complicated than they originally thought. Meanwhile, a 911 call from Ben has Dean rushing back to Lisa to finish up leftover business where their relationship is concerned.

- Season 6, Episode 14 - "Mannequin 3: The Reckoning"

Not really. This week Dean took his turn at trying to right wrongs that have occurred since the beginning of this season. It was an interesting side-trip, with all kinds of parallels to his father, but it all kicked off with one odd question for me. How is it that he was not answering calls from Lisa (Cindy Sampson) in the first place? Is the theory that since he left, they are just safe? Because, really, that’s a pretty stupid theory.

The fact that he goes running back at the first sign of trouble is proof enough that Ben and Lisa will never be safe. They are now, and always will be, potential leverage for any number of baddies to use against Dean. Despite that, I think that there was a certain finality to things with Lisa this time. I doubt we’ll be returning to visit them any time soon. Although, I wouldn’t rule out a one shot rescue mission at some point in the future.

Meanwhile, back at the Jersey Shore, “What is a Snookie?” That is a mystery that even the Winchester’s wouldn’t dare tackle. Killer mannequins, on the other hand, are right up their alley. And I really dug the job this week. Two things occurred to me right off the bat. First, mannequins are just creepy to start with. When the eyes moved on the anatomy figure in the lab it had all the creepy of a wendigo. And second, the faceless mannequin at the factory reminded me of one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes, “Blink.” Anything that moves while you’re not looking just gets scarier.

Perhaps the best part of the episode though, was the fake-out ending. Did anyone else think all was said and done when Jonny (Jake Richardson) returned to his apartment and his — decidedly weird — mannequin girlfriend turned to look at him? I was actually thinking that Sam wasn’t all the way back to normal and we’d later learn that he kept just enough Rose (Christina Sicoli) around to let her finish the job. Alas, nothing so elaborate. Isabel’s (Rosalie Ward) haunted kidney was a nice touch. But dang, that was a downer of an ending.

As for Sam and the great wall in his melon, we’re left waiting for it to break and the real trouble to begin. I don’t think it will be next week, as that looks to be another bizarro Ben Edlund story in the mold of “Hollywood Babylon“, “Ghostfacers“, and “Monster Movie.” But it will be sooner than later.

This episode felt like S1-S2 stuff. Back to basics. It’s been a while since any bones have been burned. Well, unless you count Crowley. Poor devil.

I dunno, I thought more about the Autons (living plastic) from Doctor Who than the Weeping Angels!
