Ratings Clack – Happy New Year!

Whoa... The broadcast networks only managed six new bits of programming last week. So... yeah... not a lot of numbers to talk about. But that doesn't mean we can't still have a ratings post.

How was your new year’s? What did you do? I only ask because it’s pretty obvious you weren’t slowed down by watching a lot of television.  Not only were there only six new entries last week, that included a football game, an awards show, and two new year’s eve specials. The only new scripted programming came in the form of Running Wilde (3m/1.3) on FOX, and Undercovers (4.46m/.9) on NBC. Both, as expected, continued the trend that will have them disappearing from our televisions sooner than later.

The big winner  of the week was NBC’s Sunday Night Football (23.74m/8.1), which was moved to Tuesday because we’ve become a nation of wusses. At least, that’s what Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell thinks. CBS offered up the Kennedy Center Honors (9.38m/1.5). And the week finished with ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve (9.14m/2.7) again destroying NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly (3.87m/1.2).

I’ll see you back here next week when we have some new stuff to talk about. Along with the return of a bunch of shows that were off for the holidays, we’ll also have the return of The Bachelor, the season premiere of V, CBS attempting dance with Live To Dance, People’s Choice Awards, and Winter Wipeout. Happy New Year!

Whomever thought it was a smart idea, or thought people would tune in, to have Carson Daly host New Year is insane… but that’s NBC.
