The fall finale of Gossip Girl finally brought the answers about Juliet Sharp’s motivations that I’ve been seeking for ten episodes. Unfortunately, the Blair/Juliet showdown I’d also been looking forward to did not come to fruition. And the mastermind behind the whole ordeal didn’t even know she was the mastermind.
Who would have thought the big bad of the season would turn out to be Lily van der Woodsen? I have a feeling that Rufus taking the long way to visit her might turn out to be a much longer trip than anyone expects. Things are not looking pretty for the Gossip Girl matriarch. I’ve mentioned before how much I’ve liked the dynamic between Lily and Chuck, a bond broken that will probably never be repaired.
Lily has never been the most moral person, always making protecting the image of her family her first priority, even to the detriment of their actual well being. Her actions regarding Ben Sheppard, however, are unforgivable. Even she should have been able to stop sliding down this particular slippery slope.
As much as I think that putting Dan and Serena together at this stage is a bad idea, I want to expect more of Blair than planting the seed of them not being together. And … the idea of Dan and Blair spending the break together? Perhaps their hands touch while both reaching for a shared box of popcorn? Yeah, I’m already sick to my stomach, too.
So, Blair’s minions knew Cate for a “whole year” before this season. Considering Serena made her decision to go to Columbia this summer, I guess that means that Juliet’s plan was one of opportunity? This has always felt like a long thought out, long-con kind of plan. Or is this just a writer’s loose end?
Speaking of loose ends … Gossip Girl actually helped Blair and Dan? Anyone think we’ll ever meet the person behind that particular mask?
