Saturday Night Live – Jon Hamm/Rihanna

Vincent Price, kissing highway cops, an auto-tuned crier and a dog in a purse. It's a Jon Hamm hosted 'SNL' for your Halloween weekend. Videos of the skits are here, or will be soon!

- Season 36, Episode 5 - "Jon Hamm/Rihanna"

By the way, in case you’re keeping count, so far I’m losing terribly at my own SNL host game. Still time left for me, but it’s not looking so hot.

Cold Open: Vice Presidential Address — “Don’t be whiners, think about the miners!” Always love Sudeikis as Biden. I’m just getting tired of the political cold opens is all.

Monologue: Jon Hamm — Hamm’s certainly showing himself comfortable with being on the show. Really liked this opening, with the Mad Men ad slogan challenge.

Ronnie & Clyde — Why didn’t I see a Shy Ronnie short coming with Rihanna guesting?

Vincent Price’s Halloween Special — Something about these Vincent Price skits I always love. Maybe it’s my Halloween spirit. “Sausage?! There isn’t a sausage!”

Back to the Future Screen Tests — The thing I usually don’t care for with these kinds of skits is how the actors seem to perform what they think are their best impersonations, and most times they seem to come out awkward. The only ones that didn’t feel awkward, to me, were Hader’s Pachino and Alan Alda, and Hamm’s Robin Williams.

Audition Room — Best parts from this skit were Wiig going so far as to say she’d show her spread buttcrack on-screen and Sudeikis’s window dive fake-out.

Musical Guest: Rihanna — Really not my thing, so I have a hard time commenting on it. Though the second song was better than the first.

Weekend Update — I really think Hader’s my favorite castmember on SNL this season … probably last, too. I always laugh at his impressions, and his James Carville is no exception. I also seem to get a kick out of Garth & Kat, because it’s obvious the two just make stuff up as they go and crack each other up in the process.

I Didn’t Ask For This — In case you’re wondering, some of these are real videos! Here’s Fat Guy Gets Owned and Best Cry Ever (and auto-tuned). Sorry, but they are freakin’ funny. This was the best sketch of the night for me.

Highway Cops — I didn’t really get this one. Did it just serve to shock us with a Hamm-Sudeikis kiss?

Barney & Darlique — The funniest thing about this sketch is that I’m sure there are lounge singer couples out there who aren’t much of a stretch from Hamm and Wiig’s characters. And damn, “Fott” is one unfortunate last name.

Dog in Purse — Looks like we’ve got a new regular cartoon on our hands, and it’s voiced by David Spade no less!

I love the Shy Ronnie bit. Rihanna’s lyrics like “use your words” cracks me up. I knew there’d be a Vincent Price sketch, but my favorite will always be Kristin Wiig’s Gloria Swanson from the first one they did. The BTTF screen tests were pretty good, but obviously a plug for the new DVD release (although they kept showing the Blu-ray packaging!) Loved I Didn’t Ask for This, and Garth and Kath always crack me up. I like Rihanna but the second song was a mess as far as audio. Her singers sounded off key and her mic just sounded bad. I thought the first song came off much better.
