Dancing with the Stars results – I’m a bit upset at this upset!

The Hills star Audrina Patridge twirled out of the ballroom on this week's Dancing With the Stars quite unexpectedly. And frankly, I'm getting sick and tired of losing talented people too soon on these so called "competition" shows.

- Season 11, Episode 12 - "Season 11, Episode 12"

My. I … um. Well. Audrina Patridge was forced to pack up her dancing heels at the more than half way mark on Dancing With the Stars tonight. I admit to being a might bit speechless. I really thought Audrina would make it to the final three, at least. At one point, she even went to the top of the leader board. I guess I’ll just borrow judge Len Goodman’s words here, when he saw Audrina and Jennifer Grey as the last two standing under the red “jeopardy” lights. “There is no justice, these two being here. It’s nonsense!”

And it was. I am officially going on record as stating that these competition shows are not really competition shows. In my mind, this all started with the creators of American Idol opening up the phone lines to the viewing public. A great idea at first. Brilliant for ratings, to actually involve the viewers in the outcome of a live show. But this great idea has turned out to be what may be the death of these kinds of programs. Because now, it’s all about popularity, and not who is truly the best dancer, or the most improved and deserving amateur. Nope. It’s about who has the most fans who are willing to spend an hour or two texting, phoning, and voting via the internet.

So sounds the death knell for Audrina. Holy Moses (in real life I swear, but someone who knows my Mom might be reading this) Audrina got the second best judge’s scores last night! But the lack of fans for her show (The Hills on MTV) proved to be the end of her. Really. Not many people must watch the thing (I don’t as Spenser Pratt just brings out the worst in me.) Here’s her performance from last night if you missed it. NOT worthy of going home….

Whereas, according to my predictions, this NFL dude should be long gone….

No comparison, people! None at all. Audrina did not lose by the judge’s vote. Her score individually was an twenty-four, to Kurt’s eighteen. And Kurt was the first one removed by the judges in the dance marathon. Audrina lasted until final three.

In synopsis, the poor gal was robbed at gunpoint by a faulty system. Maybe we should just let professional judges have the complete and total say, in order to be more true to the word “competition.” I mean, would Kurt have won a football game with four interceptions and six sacks, if he simply had louder fans? Ridiculous! (How’d you like them football references? I think I’ve learned something from occasionally looking up from my book while the Mister watches Monday Night Football.)

So that’s that. As a final aside, I just have to mention, that hearing Alice Cooper predict Kurt the winner this year was freaking hilarious. I always suspected his crazy makeup was made of lead in the ’70s, and it might come back to haunt him in middle age. Seepage into the brain, you know.

When I saw the elimination last night, the first thing I thought was not “Oh, poor Audrina” nope it was “Geez, Tara is gonna be some Pissed Off!” :-)

I agree with you on the voting, maybe leave it in for the audience feeling a part of the game, but weigh the judges scores so that you’re only voting to determine who from the bottom three is actually going home.

I love it that I am the first one you thought of, that’s so funny! And you’ve got an excellent idea there! Why oh why aren’t ABC execs reading this?

Wow…. just, wow. Yeah, she totally did not deserve to be sent home!

That’s so quaint that you think reality shows like DWTS and American Idol are talent competitions.

They are TV shows rigged to generate a certain number of viewers in a certain demographic to sell advertising slots.

Having a deserving candidate booted off early every season generates press which generates viewers for the show.

Simon Fuller, I know that’s you! Take off that scary Halloween mask!

. . . . .

Maybe the next X-Files flick will delve into the topic of conspiracy theory where reality shows are concerned!

Jiminy … !!!
