Ted detours from the story on HIMYM

If you were the architect of the Death Star, would you put that on your space resume? The answer to that, and none of life's other questions on this week's 'HIMYM.'

- Season 6, Episode 3 - "Unfinished"

I know, despite all of my Charlie Brown jokes this season, that even with the supposed renewed focus, that it still won’t be a straight line to Ted meeting the titular mother. Between his career and Robin trying to get over Don, this week’s episode was decent filler. I’m just hoping that we don’t see too much of said  filler this season.

Ted needs to pick a profession and stick with it. I’m not sure I even believe that he has regrets in leaving being an architect to teach about it. I liked the idea of Ted as a professor, especially a pent-up pervy one. He is just douchey enough to pull it off.

I’m not immune to the fact, however, that Ted, Marshall, and Barney all working together could potentially be comedic gold. The stuff a couple seasons back, especially the firing storylines, were solid. Heck, the Death Star-Architect run of jokes in this episode alone were worth the career change.

“Where’s the poop, Robin,” proves to me that the writers still don’t know what to do with Lily. Alyson Hannigan is still probably my favorite actor on the show not named NPH, but her character? Not so much. I had hoped the eventual pregnancy storyline this season would give her more direction, but we’ve seen very little progress on that front since the premiere.

Robin has a point about deleting numbers from your phone. It doesn’t even need to be an ex to make it hard. Marshall’s band, though, was a better “version of yourself that you’ll never become” hypothetical than Lily taking karate.

Notes & Quotes

  • “But that’s impossible, you deleted his number!” – Lily
“Well I tried to, but then this thing popped up on my phone and said ‘Are you sure?’ and I wasn’t sure! I can’t lie to my phone!” – Robin
  • “What’s the matter lady? Scared?” – Kid
“Of you? Please, I’m a kindergarten teacher.” – Lily
“I hated kindergarten … all three times.” – Kid
  • Loved Robin knowing all of Barney’s moves … That is the third subtle reminder that they were together in three episodes this season.
  • “Where’s the poop, Robin?” – Lily
“How do you do that? You’re like a bomb-sniffing dog, except with poop. You’re a poop-sniffing dog!” – Robin

Agree. The “where’s the poop” bit just didn’t work, at least for me.

I agree about “where’s the poop?” falling flat. It just didn’t work for me and made me sad that they can’t work Lily in any better.

I hope the Don story dies with this episode, I never really saw the appeal from any aspect. Count me in with not finding “where’s the poop?” funny.

The Death Star chat was great. Maybe it’s because I’m a guy, but does anyone else feel that they’ve kind of recaptured the magic with the three bros, but haven’t really found their stride with the two ladies? Hopefully with Don behind her and a potential pregnancy down the road, their stories will be more interesting

Stan: While I never cared much for Don, I don’t think Robin has been lost to the writers in the way that Lily has…

It’s really weird because I think if they just used “shit” instead, the joke would’ve worked.

You gotta love censorship.
