True Blood – Bill’s old flame

As I said last week, things are going to be different around town. Considering how I felt about the maenad, that is definitely a good thing.

- Season 3, Episode 2 - "Beautifully Broken"

The mystery of Bill’s abduction gets answers that lead to more questions. Eric moves to protect Sookie, and Jessica rents a chainsaw. Jason Stackhouse continues to be, well, Jason. And has Lafayette finally found Mr. Right? The people of Bon Temps have found that recovery from Maryann has its own challenges.

When the boring fiancé-to-be is away, the much-cooler-bad-boy-vampire will play. Anytime we get more Sookie/Eric goodness, I’m a fan. These two have chemistry oozing out of their pores. I’m not sure exactly where canon takes these to, but to a shared bed is where I’m hoping. The crazy part is, it doesn’t seem to be (all) about sex. Eric really seems to have strong feelings for Sookie.

So, Bill was abducted by werewolves. Werewolves on orders from the Vampire King of Mississippi, and … his boyfriend? The politics of the vampire world (hell, of this entire world) are both interesting and confusing. Bill isn’t nearly as important to the Queen of Louisiana, as her neighboring King thinks. A power play to combine the Vampire territories of Mississippi and Louisiana just doesn’t seem like that big of a deal compared to a magister tracking down V sales.

Jessica’s guilt over killing her first real “meal” has made for some good television. Pam as a mentor for our favorite teenaged vampire is something I could totally get behind. At the end of the day, though, chainsaws and Lysol aren’t the tools that she needs to be using to clean up her mess. Her plight with Hoyt, and the question it raises, are interesting. Can a leopard change its spots?

Has Jason Stackhouse found a new calling as a law enforcement officer? He did take that drug dealer with some apparent ease. I had hoped that they’d follow the thread started last week regarding his confidence. I mean, I don’t want to see him fail in bed again, but I did figure we’d see him down more before he rebounded.

Until the last moment, all of the scenes with Tara this week did nothing to dissuade my opinion from last week. In fact, it lead to more Lafayette back story. What changed in the end was the introduction of Franklin Mott (James Frain). I’m not saying that he had more charisma in two scenes than Bill has had in over two seasons, but … Oh, wait, that is exactly what I’m saying.

It is a damn crying shame that we only got to hear three of Terry’s reasons why Arlene can trust him with his kids. I mean, he’s a nurturer, savior of armadillos everywhere.

Notes & Quotes

  • Did I mention last night how silly it was that Jessica was able to look up the symbol on the werewolf’s neck? No? Well, consider it mentioned now …
  • “You failed this girl for the last time, you hear me?” – Lafayette
  • “Yeah, but how do you stop [feeding on a dying human]?” – Jessica
“I think of crying children with soggy diapers. Also maggots.” – Pam
  • “There’s werewolves? Shit! Big Foot, is he real too?” – Jason
    “I don’t know, I guess it’s possible.” – Sookie
    “Santa?” – Jason
  • From carbonated blood to blood gelato, one wonders if they could impress Bubba from Forrest Gump.
  • More Godric is a good thing.
  • More Vampires in World War II is also a good thing.
  • Lorena, on the other hand, not so much.
  • I’ve still not seen enough out of Sam’s storyline to get me to care.

Here’s hoping there is more Godric in the future. He is a much better tortured vampire than Bill. Even if he is already dust.

I have to say however, that I am on the fence with the werewolves story. I just watched ABC’s “The Gates” and it also had vampires, werewolves and witches… shows are getting a little too “Twilight” for me. I am hoping that the werewolf story in TB is exciting and worth the time to watch.

These warewolves seem to be just pets for the most part. Used by Vampires as taskers.
Seems Sam has found he still has a lot to learn from his new-found Family. Did you see his brother re-change just before the truck got him? Hmmm…Sam seemed perplexed…and curious.
So, who’s up for placing bets on what other fantastical creatures may join in this managerie of mayhem?
