I am, by my nature, a cynical man. I don’t do well with big romantic gestures, mainly because I am afraid to fall flat on my face, doing something wrong when I’m trying to do something right. Because of that, when I watch television, I have this weird drive to see the happy ending, to see couples find a way to work things out, despite whatever crazy obstacles are thrown in front of them (some simply for the sake of bad good drama). I think that explains my frustrations with the progress in the Bones and Booth storyline this season. Conversely, it is the reason my heart grew three sizes this day, Grinch style, when Angela and Hodgins finally got it right.
If there’s any couple on the television landscape that has had to overcome obstacles, it is Angela Pearly Gates Montenegro (Or whatever her name really is) and Jack Stanley Hodgins. Hell, it took a year and a half and Hodgins nearly being buried alive before she’d even give him the time of day. Weddings down the drain, break ups that broke hearts, new boyfriends … The only couple that’s had more challenges to happiness is, well, Booth and Brennan. Tonight, though, these two finally overcame everything that has prevented that happiness, and realized, once and for all, that they were meant for each other. And instead of waiting any longer, they got married on the spot, complete with Sherriff assisted confetti. Maybe another couple we know could learn a lesson?
I have always been a fan of how Bones toys with different genres, and tonight’s episode was no exception. Wiccans do make for better subject matter, than say, horse fetishists. It was a shame, though, how the case worked itself out. As Booth said, they weren’t bad people, they just did a bad thing.
Next week, though, brings back the best story arc that Bones has ever seen, the Gravedigger, and I for one, can’t wait to see who gets the best of who in an incredible battle of wits.
Notes & Quotes
Ah so you notices. They are the surrogate relationship on the show. Glad to see it made you happy :-)
Wow, I fully enjoyed this episode! Excellent plot with full of happiness played by excellent actors. I especially love the Booth’s dazzling smile when he made wish for Bones and burnt the paper doll! I watched the scene smiling from ear to ear. Tonight show made me so happy.
I loved the season finale and still do. I really miss Bones and hope that a year passes over the summer. I hope that there is a big happy reunion scene when they meet at the reflecting pool. Then let them go steadily forward in their relationship. A lot of steaminess can go on without them going right to bed. Maybe this can lead up to something more permanent a little later!!
