I almost titled this post “The Chief is dead, long live the Chief,” but I doubt that my appreciation for a bit of wit would outweigh the outrage that putting a such a large spoiler in the title would create, even if it wasn’t even a real spoiler. One could argue otherwise, though. Derek stepped up for Weber, even if no one wants to see it from that perspective, including Meredith. But, really? He needs time to think about it? Regardless of his final decision, the Chief we knew really might be dead.
Nothing seemed to get through to him, until, of course, Bailey laid the proverbial smack down. I’ve been asking about where this story line has been going for a while, and I’m still as confused today as ever before. I don’t care what Derek says, there’s no way the Board, in their right minds, would ever let Richard come back as Chief of Surgery. Not at all because he would have gone through rehab, but because the whole ordeal has become so public. The rumor mill has started at Seattle Grace, and it will never let up. He’ll never regain the respect of his staff, at least the majority them. Bailey, as we saw, will always be there for him, but I doubt whipping the entire hospital into line is a task even she could accomplish. As much as I love the character, I think it is time for him to go.
I’ve been an advocate of the whole Mark/Lexi relationship from the beginning, against quite a bit of criticism. I guess, I am, as they say, “rueing” the day I supported it. The degeneration of their relationship is ridiculous and not fun to watch (save for the occasional funny line from Lexi). I’ll take my lumps on this one.
Many of the CoCoNuts (that’s Cristina/Owen rather spirited fans) will be happy with tonight’s episode. There’s the cuteness with the sex injury, and the whole caveman comment. But, I’m not digging it. I think Yang not answering her page was just unprofessional and just plain stupid, as she eventually realized. Owen should have never asked her to do that, and she should have never been as idiotic as to listen. Her comment, “You’ve been trying to screw me into submission,” sums up my opinion completely. Reference Burke was a nice way to explain where she was coming from, but she, Owen, and Teddy are all turning Seattle Grace into high school drama the likes we haven’t seen since … well, probably season three.
Notes & Quotes
No mention of Karev diving head first into Peds? His storyline is the one I find most compelling. And Callie & Arizona are the saving grace in the relationship department on this show these days. I really hated Callie at the outset, but I’ve grown quite fond of her.
My favorite part was Yang giving her speech at the end. I bought that speech entirely. Unfortunately, I don’t buy anything else about them.
The rest of the show is just meh. It used to be about friendships, and now there really are none left. Every character cannot be involved with another character on the show. Its beyond ridiculous, and way too soap opera.
Finally, I think pregnant Lexi and the chick from Everwood look far too much alike to be on the same show. Their faces are very difficult to tell apart.
I don’t really understand the Chief’s problem here. Remember back when Derek and Burke were competing for the Chief’s job because he had called Derek there just for that reason? Yeah…. And seriously, how are you going to stay pissed at the guy who is giving you a way to keep your license, and possibly (though highly unlikely) take back your job as chief of surgery.
And did anyone else, when Callie+Mark+Arizona were laying in bed together, suddenly miss George REALLY REALLY bad? It literally brought tears to my eyes.
As for Alex – I have ALWAYS said that he belongs in Peds. We knew that back when Addie was there and he was frequently on her service kicking major bootie. We knew that when he took off his shirt and held that preemie without caring how it affected his bad boy reputation. I’m glad to see him being a rockstar!
Speaking of Rockstars… when is Izzie coming back?
