Big Bang Theory – These guys say the funniest things

“Bazinga.” “Bazinga.” “Bazinga.” “Bazinga.”

I believe the last time I spoke about The Big Bang Theory, I wrote a very similar post (I did, in fact: it’s right here). I don’t say that as a negative thing. I love BBT, specifically the beats that are both written, and well acted. It’s not like there is a mythos to the show, some mystery to be solved, or, frankly, an overreaching story to be told. But, despite that (or maybe because of it) the Big Bang Theory continues to be one of the funniest shows on television.

These are the ten beats that made me laugh the hardest this week (and a long list of honorable mentions).

Honorable Mentions

  • “Captain Hook’s hand was eaten by a crocodile not an alligator. If you’re going to mock me at least get your facts straight.”
  • “How long has he been stuck?” “Intellectually about 30 hours. Emotionally about 29 years.”
  • “I haven’t seen him this stuck since he tried to figure out the third Matrix movie.”
  • “Don’t bark at me, I fell too!” “Oh you’ve been falling all night. You’re used to it.”
  • “OK, you know what, Leonard, I know I said I could handle your roommate, but I was wrong. We’re going to have to break up.”
  • “Don’t be absurd! That’s in Washington. You know I could never live in a city whose streets are laid out in a wheel and spoke pattern!”
  • “I see. Just give me a second … Security!!!!”
  • “I bet if we all chipped in, we could buy Sheldon a van.” “But he’s afraid of dogs.” “Yeah, that’s the only thing wrong with that plan.”
  • “Sheldon doesn’t work here.” “Well, honey, not to complain, but we were starting to think you didn’t either.”
  • “It’s a wave! … The moment to applaud would be now!”

The Top Ten List

10. “Why thank you for noticing. I’m ‘Menial Employee of the Month.’”

9. “It’s my new ringtone. The Joker, from Batman.” “It creeps me out.” “Me too, but I paid three bucks for it.”

8. “Penny, I told you if you don’t put him in his crate at night he just runs around the apartment.”

7. “Have you tried rebooting him?” “I think it’s a firmware problem.”

6. Tap tap tap “Leonard and Penny … Leonard and Penny?”

5. “One bacon cheeseburger, breaking two Jewish dietary restrictions simultaneously … kudos.”

4. “Your cellphone was off.” “Because we didn’t want to be disturbed!” “That didn’t work out, did it?”

3. “Lettuce shredded not chopped?” “Yes” “You understand why I’m doing this to you?” “I do.” “That will be all … That was fun!”

2. “I asked myself what is the most mind numbing, pedestrian job conceivable, and three answers came to mind. A tollbooth attendant, an Apple Store Genius, and what Penny does.”

1. “Bazinga.” “Bazinga.” “Bazinga.” “Bazinga.”

This was one of those standout episodes filled with great lines.

Maybe I was just tired, but I didn’t find this episode that funny. Sure there were some good lines, but overall I didn’t find the story funny. This show usually makes me laugh out loud, but it didn’t this time.

Same here.

But it’s the same with Two and a Half Men for me. It’s light entertainment, with geeks. It’s funny even when the episode is not that good.

I mean before last night’s episode, watching HIMYM was a tedious task each monday. I kept coming back because I knew it used to be good but “but, uhm” made me want to reach into the TV and suffocate Robin.

What I get from this review by Ivey is that even in the episodes that don’t make me laugh out loud, there still is a plethora of one-liners that are really funny, not annoying because they just added something to the script that neither fit the character nor the situation just to have one-liners. Which, again, makes HIMYM come to mind – before last night’s episode, which was the best episode ever. Ok in three years maybe.

Sebastian, my friend, I don’t think we’ll ever be on the same page about anything. I disagree with the sentiment by most out there, including our lovely Deb, that HIMYM isn’t funny, or is tedious viewing. I still love it. I’d love it more if they could figure out to do with Lily each week, but I’m a fan all the same.

I’m glad you still like the show but I can hardly understand it. I mean compare this week’s episode with the rest of the season – the difference is so extreme… last night’s episode hat me rolling on the floor with laughter, everything was pitch perfect. Every line was just made for the character saying it, nothing was blazé and nothing seemed out of place. You can’t say that about at least 20 of the last 25 episodes. Too often Ted and Marshall had lines that just made me go “WTF?” or “That’s just dumb”. You know – the “According to Jim” feeling. I mean I’m not angry that you like it but it’s as if the authors just phoned it in the last year because they got an early renewal for two seasons, and that they could do better if they just applied themselves a little bit more.

I mean “Ted, seriously, when are you going to get your act together” just had me in tears :-)

The geek humor was really on the mark this week, and I agreed with all of their opinions, especially on Matrix Revolutions. I don’t think I could live in a wheel-and-spoke city either…

does ANYONE have ANY sources to get that joker ringtone? oh and yes i couldn’t live in a wheel-and-spoke city either !!

I couldn’t stop laughing. It was the best episode all season, even though it has not really a story to tell.

Just the way Sheldon jumped out of the balls shouting “Bazinga”. Classic whack-a-mole feeling

“Bazinga” was much funnier than it has any right to be.
