Lost in Lost – Premiere date, Dharma documentary, and final season art

Lost

We’re getting closer and closer to the final season of Lost. A sure sign that the new season is right around the corner: Lost now has an official premiere date and time slot. Lost will be airing on Tuesday nights at 9 PM. The first episode of the year will come on February 2, with the obligatory recap special on from 8-9 and then two hours of Lost to kick off the countdown to the finale.

My sleep schedule is very happy with the new time slot. Sure, there’s going to be some overlap with American Idol, but that’s not new for Lost. Besides, ratings are irrelevant for this show, and have been for a few years now. I suppose the only problem would be if I planned on watching American Idol. I have to admit that I did watch it for a good number of seasons, but I gave it up last season and found that I didn’t miss it at all. In any case, what could really compete with the final season of Lost? We’ve been waiting six years for this!

This week also saw the final (free) installment of the Dharma Initiative Documentary released on the Lost website. I say it’s the final free installment, because there is an additional segment that will only be available on the season five DVD that comes out in the beginning of December. Does ABC really think that it’s going to drive people to buy the DVD? I mean, I’ve watched the five installments of the “documentary” on the website, but there’s been no new information offered, and they were, frankly, a bit dull.

The other thing I wanted to bring up in this week’s column is some of the promotional artwork that has been released for this upcoming season. They’re pretty awesome! The first can be seen here. Check out the top of the poster. It features all of the characters from Lost, including many of the people who are slightly less than alive. The presence of Michael, Charlie, Ana Lucia, Boone, Libby, and others is certainly a strong tease that we are going to see a rewritten history in the final season. The thought of that is both thrilling and frightening. There’s so much to do in the final episodes to begin with that to wade through a rewritten history of the entire show seems like a whole lot to bite off.

The other poster can be found here. It’s very similar, featuring face (and partial face) shots of characters, both living and (presumably) dead. I find it very interesting that Juliet has such a prominent positioning in this poster. Should we read anything into that?

There still isn’t much to talk about yet, but that hasn’t curbed my excitement for the final season of Lost! It’s coming!

If LOST is airing Tuesdays at 9:00 for its final season, does this mean Dancing With the Stars is off the schedule or are they moving the results show to another time? I figured LOST was premiering with a two hour episode, then would be moving to 10:00. Just wondering.

I’m guessing the results show would move to 8, but I can’t find anything to confirm that. My guess is that V would probably move to 10 after Lost.

Thus killing any small chance V had of getting more episodes. :)

Is it official that LOST will remain at 9:00 for the entire season? I can see the first night being a 3 hour “event” with a recap episode at 8:00 followed by a 2 hour premier at 9:00, but future episodes could definitely air at 10:00.

V isn’t scheduled to come back until March, after the Olympics, and whether it comes back to Tuesday or another night probably hasn’t be decided. I’m sure by then, ABC will have some schedule holes to fill. But I could see Tuesday as V at 8:00, DWTS Results at 9:00 and Lost at 10:00. Doesn’t seem so farfetched!

Various outlets, including Michael Ausiello from Entertainment Weekly are reporting that 9:00 PM Tuesday is going to be the regular time slot for Lost.

It’s possible that by the time V comes back, especially if it’s late March, that DWTS will have ended for the season. Thus DWTS Results, than later, V would be at 8pm and Lost at 9pm. The timing would be really tight and if they had a super size DWTS cast, probably not feasible. But it is a small possibility.
