I didn’t get to watch the latest episode of Dexter until this morning. but a few comments to my last post trickled in before last night was through. I just knew they would contain spoilers, but did I shy away from them? Oh well, my fault. Anyway, when I read the comments saying Christine appeared to be Lundy’s and Deb’s shooter, I was skeptical and was going to hold out hope that I was right until I saw the episode for myself. And now … well, I was sorta right, sorta wrong. But mostly wrong. I guess it depends on how you look at it.
Initially I thought Christine being the shooter made no sense at all, but that was based on what shoddy motive we could make up for her. I never believed Christine would do what she did just to get ahead in her career, and I was praying that wouldn’t wind up being the case in the end. So, on that front I was wrong, in that it did turn out to be Christine, though the now-revealed motive makes a hell of a lot more sense after this episode.
What I don’t understand yet is how Christine could be Arthur’s daughter, unless she’s from a previous marriage or tryst with another woman. She’s Latino, right? Well that didn’t come from Arthur or Sally. So either she’s a good actress at appearing Latio when she’s not, or she’s got a different mother. The question now is whether she’s fully working to help her father’s cover and knows everything he’s hiding from everyone else, or if she’s secretly working against him due to being abused as a child, as Arthur’s “current” kids are.
Where I was right, though, is that one of Arthur’s family was the shooter, though that was before we knew about Christine. The thing is, my reasoning is still somewhat sound: the theme of the season is family and how Dexter’s new family situation appears against Mitchell’s. It’s clear Jonah and his sister won’t be working to help their dad’s cover, should they ever discover the monster he really is. So is Christine working out of support for her father or fear?
Did anyone else think Cody’s questions to Deb about seeing Lundy dying was a teeny-tiny vision into what head-Harry was telling Dexter, about what living with a monster will do to a family? Dexter’s been worried about his blood son taking on the same “hobbies” as his dad, but is it Cody he should be watching out for? I really hope they don’t go down that road, because it wouldn’t make much sense at this point when Dexter’s been nothing but kind and supportive to the family.
Speaking of how Dexter treats his family, I knew it would only be a matter of time before the neighbor made a move on Rita. She clearly kissed back, and though she quickly ended what was going on, that’s not the end of things. Dexter made a clear note to head-Harry that Rita had started out as cover but has turned into much more than that. Does that mean jealousy will come into play? I’d say probably.
Finally, it’s going to be interesting to see how Dexter gets to Trinity now. Will one of Arthur’s kids get to him before Dexter can? My theory of Dexter letting Trinity go free is shot, so now it’s only a matter of time before he’s on some kind of table awaiting death.
Is she the daughter that the family said is no longer here (or was it Trinity’s sister they were screaming about??)…That whole familial part was so confusing that I missed a bit of the true meaning. I’ll have to rewatch.
(I never thought she was a latina character.)
Last night’s ep was explosive, and exactly why I love Dexter. They pull shit out that I would never even imagine!!!
What an amazing episode. I was totally sucked in the entire time. All the scenes at Arthur’s house kept building up the tension. Kudos to Michael C. Hall and John Lithgow. It was fun to see the monsters come out. I hope everything works out in the end.

Dexter *has* been supportive. But Cody and his sister were brutalized by their biological father.
In the books and in the first season of the show, there were hints that Cody and his sister, both, were primed to become serial killers by their father’s brutality to them and Rita. Cody liked to kill; she liked to watch. By the second season, those hints were dropped.
But you never know. … a show desperate for ratings or exciting new 5th season plot lines could resurrect an old idea.

TV Guide ran an interview with Jennifer Carpenter a couple weeks ago and she talked about the season finale. Said it’s going to be the most gruesome episode in the show’s history. She even joked that all of their trailers could be absent from the set next year (implying most could be killed off). Obviously that won’t happen, but I don’t think Rita’s long for the show and I have a hunch Angel might get it, too. If Arthur starts a new cycle, he’s going to kill a single girl, a mother of two, and a father. I was thinking Christine was going to be the single girl, and when Arthur showed up at her door I was doing the “I told ya so” dance. That ended rather abruptly, but I liked the twist. I can’t envision they’ll dump Deb, since her character is almost as popular as Dexter’s, so if Arthur does start a new cycle who the single girl will be is a question mark. But after that, I think Rita as the mother of two could find herself earthbound from the top of a large building. And now that Angel has found true love, it only makes sense the show would send him to a horrible death.
Actually, Rita has three children (now that Dexter, Jr. has arrived). So she does not fit the Trinity profile.
OK:
Follow me on this one. My brother and I have sucessfully figured out every season of this show at least 5 episodes out. Don’t read if you don’t want a spoiler!

Trinity is NOT a common killer trying to hide from the public. If he goes missing, someone will notice. His wife is shell-shocked enough to go after “Kyle” if Trinity does go missing and the daughter Christine is a sleeper cell, if you will.
Dexter can’t chop these people up and think no one will dig deeper. Dexter will frame Trinity for the murder of himself and his family – a departure from his normal routine, but he needs bodies left around this time.
He kills Christine (the single woman)
He kills the Wife (the mother of two)
He kills Arthur ( the father) with his own framing hammer. Hence the “framing.”
He does not leave ashes at the scene. It creates a DNA conundrum (and there are no more).
The two kids are released from the monstrous parents and will likely say nothing and move on.
Damn I’m good.
My long term prediction? Rita will catch Dexter in the act of killing someone this season. I’m sticking by that one and have a whole theory leading up to it.
Damn you’re good. :)
I think that would be great.

I’d like to hear that too.
