Bones – Gordon Gordon Wyatt opens Booth’s eyes

- Season 5, Episode 7 - "The Dwarf in the Dirt"

Booth contemplates his love

Sure, I’m going to get to the main point of my post here in a second (after the jump, lest I be slammed by the spoilerphobes out there), so I’ll spend some time stalling and talking about something else. I got all kinds of excited when I found the Simpsons Easter Egg, thinking I was all especially observant. Then, Keith informed me it was part of a contest that FOX was running, the Simpsons Scavenger Hunt. Talk about blowing the wind out of a guy’s sails.

So, this episode of Bones was great. There was a murder, and the team, which included guest star Stephen Fry as Gordon Gordon Wyatt, solved it in pretty short order. Brother kills brother over his cheating wife. Big whoop. The good stuff happened between Booth and Wyatt.

Booth went to Wyatt to help with a little marksmanship problem. After diagnosing it with a little Freudian flair, and prescribing a little showing off for Brennan on Booth’s part, he got down to the good stuff. Wyatt called him on his love for Brennan, and he didn’t deny it. Sure, Booth hedged that they were incompatible, and that he didn’t think Bones shared the feelings, but he didn’t tell Gordon Gordon that he was wrong, and I think that’s pretty telling.

I’ve gotten to the point where I take the little hints, winks, and nods to these two finally getting together in stride. This one, however, kind of jumps out at you, doesn’t it? I’ve said before that I think you can put these two together without ruining there dynamic, so I’m all for soon rather than later. Hopefully this is a hint that we might be seeing some real movement soon.

Other observations:

  • Doesn’t Angel know there’s no such thing as leprechauns? Oh, wait, same guy, wrong show.
  • Its always good to see Gordon Gordon Wyatt, chef or doctor.
  • And, for the record, you almost have to call him Gordon Gordon Wyatt; it just sounds cool.
  • “I’m fairly certain that Iron Leprechaun is not his actual name, but his wrestling moniker” – Bones sure does have a way with words.
  • The only thing better than Booth and Bones’s confrontation of the brother was the self-congratulatory bit just before.
  • “As long as I don’t have to shave my head.”

what was with all the people getting signatures from Cam et al? were they some sort of contest winners (be on an episode of Bones) or what?

I love this show. I had a hard time watching it after the whole Zach is an accomplice to a serial killer/eats humans story but I love the interns that come and go.

Anyway, I have to say that the whole dance around the will they, won’t they thing is old. I mean, Booth can’t shoot because he is secretly in love with Bones? EH… I wish they would just put it out there and let the chips fall where they may.

I miss Dr. Gordon Gordon Wyatt, not that I don’t love Sweets but it seems Sweets is more… schooled is the word I guess. Kind of like Bones. Gordon Gordon works from intuition like Booth does. Even if he is a chef now. Wouldn’t it be great if they opened a practice together???

I noticed the people signing too. I know Fox is doing some special Simpsons scavenger hunt this week and I thought maybe that was part of it but then Dan Castellaneta was in the episode so I think that was the clue from there as he plays the bartender in Simpsons.

Dan Castellaneta voices a lot of characters on The Simpsons, but he’s probably best known as Homer. Hank Azaria plays Moe the Bartender.

You are right, thanks for clarifying. I am not a big Simpsons fan so… :)

I have to think that the folks waiting for Cam’s signature, as well as Sandy (who gave Hodgins a clipboard of data) were staff from the Simpsons. I’ll need to see if that’s put up on the website or not. The other references to The Simpsons on last night’s show were Dan Castellena and the midget wrestler named Bumblebee Man.

Oh, and my two favorite Brits were on the show last night…Gordon Gordon Wyatt and Mr. Nigel-Murray.

I think Bones had a lot more fun with it than Fringe did.

I was going to use the Easter Egg I found as the post picture, but thought better of it. The one I saw was in the first scene w/ Cam and Mr. Nigel-Murray.

Did anyone catch that one?

The Bones/Booth thing hadn’t bothered me until this episode. He can’t shoot because he’s in love? Too much. Not to mention that he already knew he was in love and has been waiting for it to fade away as it was supposed to be a relic from his dream state during the coma. It shouldn’t be a revelation to Booth, an empathic sort anyway, that his distractions are impacting his performance.

His other relationships have seemed less hokey.

Heh, my husband caught the Simpsons reference in the x-ray in the Cam/Mr. Nigel Murray scene. Hilarious!
