This episode marked a slew of firsts for this show, some which were pretty unexpected. The one “theme” (for lack of a better term) of this episode was one of these unexpected turns, for both the viewers and, especially, Dexter himself. Since first meeting Dexter’s girlfriend Rita in season one, a lot of viewers likely wondered how long she was going to last, and I don’t mean in the breakup sorta way. Now, over three seasons in, we see that it’s not only unlikely that Dexter would ever kill a member of his new family, but he’d go out of his way to prevent anyone from harming them.
Another first in this episode was Dexter’s choice of kill being a woman. We haven’t seen all of his kills on the show, and he has had some victims of somewhat-collateral damage from a kill or two we’ve seen in the past, but this is the first time I can recall that he actively sought out and killed a single woman, one who also fit into the Code of Harry. Incidentally, I recognized the actress right away as Christine Cox, Jen Crane from Defying Gravity.
Though not technically a “first” for the show, the most shocking item by far was how the episode ended with both Lundy and Deb shot down by an unseen shooter. Though we saw this person rifle through Lundy’s pockets for his wallet like a common mugger, it’s safe to say that it was the Trinity killer who was behind it. Every time I think Dexter will pull a fast one on us, it always winds up being the most logical and obvious explanation that’s revealed.
If I had to guess, I’d say Lundy is dead and Deb survived. When questioned, she’ll note that Lundy looked like he recognized the shooter. They’ll take Lundy’s recorder, note that he seemed to find a possible suspect earlier that day, then the hunt will be on. It will be sad, though, to see Lundy gone.
What I don’t get, though, is the Trinity Killer’s motives and methods. As I said before, it often appears he wants to be caught, but just when it appears someone might be getting close, he guns them down. Then there was the extremely odd scene in the alley, while he sought out a beat-down and cried “it’s all your fault” to the one doing the beating. It seems he’s reenacting something that happened to him as a child, probably what his own father did to him.
Now with Deb out of commission, a question that deserves further begging is what will happen to her investigation into Harry’s past? We haven’t seen much come of that lately, so will her being taken off-duty leave her with more or less time to continue her little investigation? Seems to be that she’d be a lot more preoccupied with finding her shooter rather than anything to do with her late father.
This was not his first woman by any means. His first kill was Mary, the morphine-happy nurse that tried to kill Harry. And, of course, he killed Lila from season two.
When Lundy and Deb got shot three people popped into my head as possible suspects 1. The Trinity Killer because he had recently seen Lundy investigation the place of his next murder seen. 2. The Vacation Murders Murderer, They were near a hotel and could have looked like tourists and they were robbed just like the other vacation murders. 3. Anton, he could of shot them both in a rage over debra cheating on him and took Luny’s wallet to make it look like a robbery. Out of the three I am leaning toward Anton.
Dexter has killed a female before. Dexter killed Lila in season two. This fit the code of Harry. She was responsible for killing Dokes and tried to Kill Dexter’s kids.

Guys, I didn’t say Dexter hadn’t killed a female before. I said this is the first time he actually went out investigating the guilt of a female to see that they fit the Code of Harry.
Anyone have the thought the shooter of Deb/Lundy may have been Anton the Jilted boyfriend??? Could be a twist there and he is by no means an Angel….
When the last scene was going on, I thought Anton would see it but as soon as I heard gunshots, Anton left my mind. I immediately went to the Vacation Murders murderer. I also believe that it could be Trinity but I will never be convinced that it was Anton until they say it was him.
And your thoughts on Debra searching for Harry’s CI, go on wikipedia and look at the list of episodes. There are short descriptions of the future episodes. One says that Debra’s hunt for Harry’s CI is rekindled so that plot line is going to return.
“I said this is the first time he actually went out investigating the guilt of a female to see that they fit the Code of Harry.” – Keith
Incorrect. You may have intended to communicate that, but your actual words (“Another first in this episode was Dexter’s choice of kill being a woman… this is the first time I can recall that he actively sought out and killed a single woman, one who also fit into the Code of Harry.”) strictly state that the “first” in this episode was the “CHOICE of kill BEING a WOMAN.” There’s no wiggle room here; this has nothing to do with investigating, and solely with the sex of the chosen kill.
However, you also qualified that it was the first time you could think of that Dexter sought out a single woman who fit the Code. This more strongly implies the hunt/capture (“sought out”) aspect, but at least in this case we can allow reasonable doubt to help us accept your clarification that you actually were instead trying to imply the vetting of a potential victim (which, technically, Dex did with Mary and Lila also, albeit in more personal kinds of ways. So that one can slide).
Rather than reword your statement to avoid responsibility, and suggest it is your readers who are mistaken, you’d be better off saving face by graciously admitting a very simple error in wording on your part. Maybe even thank the commenter(s) who pointed it out for you.

All I guess I have to add to the conversation related to the killing of a woman is for anyone taking issue with my wording to chill out. That is all.
It might also have been Trinity, however he did not take his wallet but his tape-recorder, with his personal description on it.
Uh, yeah, Tim. A little chill pill might do you a world of good. What a lot of convoluted rambling over something so trivial. Sheesh.
@Rene
I think Tim’s comment was the opposite of “convoluted rambling”. Keith is trying to blame his readers for misunderstanding him, when what he wrote was incorrect.
@Keith
If you’re wrong, you’re wrong, and if you meant to say something else then update the post to more clearly communicate your thoughts and thank your readers for pointing it out. Telling them to chill out and trying to blame them just makes you look like a dick.

Mea culpa to any of you who found my comments insulting and ruined your day. We’re all just trying to have fun here. If that’s not what you’re looking for, then you’ve come to the wrong place.
So, please, go have a nice day now and don’t dwell so much on whether or not I meant this or that above.
The only correction I guess I’d make to the above so I’d not further really upset people so much would be:
“he has had some FEMALE victims of somewhat-collateral damage”
That’s really what I meant to say.
I just dont get why you are giving Keith such a hard time, everybody makes mistakes and not everyone rereads things 50 times over to see how other people would percieve it. Keith your doing a good job no matter what these assholes say.
WTF?!
Tim and Mike – get a life, please!
If you go to Showtime and look through Dexter’s list of victims, there was “Cynthia Landon” (shown in a montage in Season 1), who was a 36 year old “black widow” with three (elderly) victims.
To my eye, Lundy’s look could have been either recognition of the shooter, or just the fact that a stranger was pointing a gun at him and Deb.
I think if it had been Trinity, he would just have gone to Lundy’s hotel room, or waited until Deb left. There was no reason to involve her if the shooter was only after Lundy.
I thought it was the vacation murderer, however, notice how he did not take Debs purse?.. He only took lundys watch and wallet.. Why not go for the purse as well. Either, the producers messed up and forgot to write that in or its a clue to tell you its not who we think.
Lundy’s eyes appeared to recognize the killer.
Deb did not even get a look at the killer.
Trinity was already on the bus before he knew Lundy recorded his description.
Trinity did say “I’m Found” upon exiting the building before his brief brushing with Lundy.
The Vacation murderers would’ve gone for the hotel room contents.
If it’s Anton, I’ll be surprised, my bet is placed on Trinity.
