Dark Blue fans, where have you been? – Open Letters

DarkBlue cast 2

Dear Dark Blue-ers,

What the hell? I mean, I’m sorry to use such harsh language with you, but what the hell?

I’ve been writing about this show all season; I’ve posted reviews for every episode that’s aired in this, Dark Blue’s first year. And my comprehensive coverage has garnered about six comments from beginning to end, most having to do with either The Practice, or “next week on Leverage” promos. Nevertheless, I diligently chronicled this fantastic show, because we are the counterculture, and Dark Blue is our sun. Or something along those lines.

At the same time, I mind the suggestions that come from CliqueClack headquarters about what types of features and posts we’ve been light on of late. With the convergence of one such notice, and the season finale of the still un-renewed Dark Blue, I decided to conduct a poll following my finale review. And what did I discover?

That in less than two weeks, 200 plus of you voiced your opinions about whether or not you’re excited to see the show come back (98% love it). So, where’ve you been???

I’m certainly not blaming you (I am eyeballing the three people who didn’t like the show, though), but maybe it was our collective muted enthusiasm that got Dark Blue in its current predicament — I include myself so as not to merely shame you.

Now, I’m no movement organizer, just someone holding a tiny bullhorn. I have faith that Dark Blue will be back next season, because — besides the fact that it’s completely awesome — while its numbers were worse than the recently canceled Saving Grace, its audience retention (following Leverage) was better than Grace’s (following The Closer). What that says to TNT about scheduling, I’m not sure, but it does tell me that Dark Blue can hang onto an audience if it has the right one there when it starts. Maybe it would do better paired with The Closer?

Anyway, my point is this: when we do get our undercover unit back next year, let’s not take it for granted. Let’s gab it up, chew over the gang’s sagas, and generally make some noise. There’s plenty of chitchat going on amongst those Leverage geeks; let’s get some of that team spirit going in our corner. I know at least 200 of you are interested, and I expect to hear from each and every one of you come season two.

You can also start making up for your season one silence by helping me with a little project of mine: hunting down the three people who voted against the grain … they’re ruining the poll’s statistics!

Sincerely,

Dark Blue’s Chief Spirit Coordinator (that’s more manly than Head Cheerleader, right?)

Author’s note: There are rumors out there that the show has been renewed for a second season, but no word yet from TNT on this. Without confirmation from them, this thing is still up in the air. Fingers crossed!

Aryeh <—- much more manly than a head cheerleader

Then I won’t be anonymous anymore! :-)

I’ve been holding off reading these cause I missed the first two episodes and thought I would read them when I watch them on DVD or catch up on my DVR that’s usually my mo. I did the same with Breaking Bad and was greatful that I could go back and read the reviews. I want to support the Wire alum:)So next season I’ll be on top of things.

Did you see that episode yet? Wee-Bey and Chris, in a flip-the-switch relationship? Insane to try and process!

September 22, 2009 at 11:07 PM

Love the show & i may have commented on a review or 2. But yeah, awesome show, although i do agree with you & was hoping they’d flesh out the “going undercover” aspect of the team for more than just 1 ep. maybe have like 3 eps to a case. that sounds like a reasonable time frame to set up a cover, get in, & make a bust.

It’s feasible that they were constantly looking over their shoulders, and with the fear of being dropped at any time, they didn’t want to leave any loose threads…. It certainly should be at the top of their list for season 2, though.

September 23, 2009 at 10:16 AM

Where have I been, lol? I’ve been bombarding TNT w/emails & telling everyone I know to watch the show! It’s the best show to hit TV in many years! I have spent lots of time on the DB fan site posting comments on the threads. That’s how I found you & your website! So now that I’ve found you, count me in as one of the number one fans! There’s a lot of fans, but you have some on this site, or that site, etc. We need to organize & have 1 central location to show the support TNT needs to see!

September 23, 2009 at 1:22 PM

I agree that there’s usually a lack of organization when it comes to these things. The most important thing is, hopefully TNT is monitoring everything in order to get a full grasp of how many people are into the show. It’s gotta be about the noise we make. I’m glad to hear that people are making some! :)

I love Dark Blue! I had never heard of this site, I just noticed it on the DB Facebook Fan Page. I have been a poster on the DB site on TNT. I have sent emails to TNT telling them how great this show is and that we need Season 2. I agree with Paramedic about fans being on different sites. To me a lot of fans on facebook don’t even know that there is a Dark Blue site on TNT where you can comment, play the undercover game or even watch past episodes. We need to unite!!!!! Gotta get back to work, I will check in later.

Thanks for letting me know what else is out there! And, I love that game, as mindless as it is ;)

WE ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!! I am a huge Dark Blue fan and just learned of your site today. Kudos to you for writing about such a great show. Great poll – just voted! Season 2!!!

September 23, 2009 at 1:47 PM

The premise of the show is awesome, but so is the writing, direction, and acting, as opposed to most Cop–Showsin this day and age, (like a certain one located in the Southest, Hint, Hint,), amongst others, who insult he average, intelligent viewer with how repeatedly unrealistic hey are!! I’m an adult!! I’m looking for an adult show, and his one “Knocks It Out Of The Park,” for me. It is gritty, but within a realistic context. With as much action as it possesses, it is not just a “Shoot’em–Up,” venture. They, the writers, have taken the time to pace the show correctly, in a manner that is conducive to excellent character development. Mcdermott has established himself, even moreso, aa an incredible Lead Actor, with his Brooding Intensity, and it is refreshing to see these new, and Edgy “Up–And –Comers, Logan Marshall–Green, Omari Hardwick, and Nicki Aycox. Perfectly casted, and a perfect blend of drama, and action. Check it out if you haven’t already!!

They could, however, have done with some longer-haul cases. It was not only a little hard to swallow that everything was open and shut in 42 minutes (even recognizing that they start “already in progress”), but it was also a missed opportunity. It would be really fun to watch them develop a case from the beginning, like on The Wire. Hopefully we’ll yet see that in season 2 and beyond.

Dude, checkin this out now. kickin show.

September 23, 2009 at 2:51 PM

Where have you been?? You are awesome. I hope TNT does pay attention to the fact that DB had good retention, like you mentioned. DB would be purrrfect after The Closer! YOU are an awesome cheerleader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 23, 2009 at 4:36 PM

Didn’t we decide on Chief Spirit Coordinator? ;)

September 23, 2009 at 4:40 PM

Thanks everybody for joining us here! :-)

September 24, 2009 at 1:27 PM

Please tell me Dark Blue is coming back!
I haven’t enjoyed a show this much in a
long time. Are the rumors true?

September 24, 2009 at 4:08 PM

Too soon to tell, but they haven’t cancelled it yet, which is definitely a good thing.

September 25, 2009 at 7:13 PM

Love this show..We are all over at Facebook page and Show’s Fansite page. It is always hard to figure out how to get info back to TNT about how great this show is..cast, dialogue, gritty plots, even the lighting is great..Love the music, tension..but Season 1 was too short. We need Season 2! Thanks

One of the best new shows on TV

September 27, 2009 at 1:00 AM

TNT’s Dark Blue is THE best new show on TV. Dark Blue must be renewed for a second season! There is just too much potential for it to become a huge hit with time.

September 28, 2009 at 5:51 PM

I love Dark Blue, I haven’t been able to watch it on TV because I have no cable in college so I watch it online the minute its available. I really hope they renew this show, it’s THE BEST!!

October 1, 2009 at 2:05 PM

Aryeh, any updates about Dark Blue?

October 1, 2009 at 2:51 PM

Someone mentioned a Dylan McDermott Dark Blue press conference on Tuesday. We’re trying to find out what it was about.

October 9, 2009 at 9:14 PM

I love, love, love Dark Blue. I think it is one of the best shows on television and I am praying that it is renewed. I think that maybe a lot of people are like me and get sick of watching new shows because they always seem to get canceled so fast. I couldn’t help but get hooked on Dark Blue. The characters are so convincing, the story lines have been great. I am addicted and I can’t wait to see more. Please renew Dark Blue. It is so much better than all the other TNT shows (although I do love the Closer too)–Leverage; really? Leverage is interesting at times but in no way is a show that can’t be missed. Again, please renew Dark Blue and all the fans of the show, tell your friends. They can catch up on the show now and then maybe we can save this great show.
