True Blood – Oh yes, he is the best offering ever!

The God who comes

So finally the storyline that I’ve hated comes together with the characters that have been having a good time out in Dallas. Can the travelers save Bon Temps (and by “save Bon Temps” I mean save the story, and not necessarily the town)? Sookie finally meeting MaryAnn was a good start, finally putting together the protagonist with this season’s real antagonist.

There has been been some speculation on the internets recently about what other powers Sookie might have. Whatever she did to MaryAnn proves that she’s obviously got more going on that just an ability to read minds. Granted, her “talk to the hand” move didn’t really have any lasting affect on MaryAnn, but, alas, you’ve got to start somewhere.

Jason Stackhouse, the God that comes? That easily has to be one of the best scenes of the season. Andy supplying the horns (After Terry’s too-funny disbelief) finished off the picture perfectly. The subterfuge was apparently based on the visions of those infected, which, we saw for the first time tonight, and we saw several times. Jason really has, at least in his own way, come into his own this season. He took some of the skills he learned at the Church of the Fellowship of the Sun, and used them in the Battle of Merlotte’s (Even though he doesn’t know the word “distraction”).

Speaking of Terry, Todd Lowe did a great job tonight. His leading of the mob at Merlotte’s was hilarious, especially the lines about retreat when Arlene was in danger. Unfortunately for him, I think he’s the candidate most likely to incur MaryAnn’s wrath for Sam’s escape.

As far as marrying the two stories, I think this was a good first step. Eric obviously needs to be brought into the fold sooner rather than later, but I don’t suspect it will be long before he gets into town. With only two episodes left in this run, I truly hope that they wrap up the MaryAnn storyline before starting something new for the next batch of episodes.

Other Stuff:

  • I actually like Michelle Forbes, don’t get me wrong, but MaryAnn not so much
  • Lafayette quoting scripture was an interesting character piece
  • I was just thinking that I hadn’t seen a good mystical, drunken orgy, and thankfully, I was obliged
  • I know I should feel stupid for saying so, but every time I see the actress that play’s Tara’s name in the credits, I start looking for a redheaded witch of some kind
  • Too bad we didn’t actually get to meet the Queen in this episode, as I’m looking forward to Evan Rachel Wood
  • If you thought I could get through an entire post without talking about Jessica, you’re mistaken, as I doubt her attack of Hoyt and his mother will go over well next week
