Weeds – L’Chaim! Weddings, weed, and Entenmann’s

Weeds 5.10 GuillermoI got an Everybody Loves Raymond chill when Doug squared off against that mouthy Nature Scout on Weeds. What, she can’t share her cookie corner with the newest “You’re Pretty!” salesman? Rude.

It’s official: Celia’s now a drug dealer … is the show coming full circle, to end up with Celia marrying a Mexican drug-kingpin? Or might we luck out and get to see her slaughtered by someone like Guillermo (Guillermo Diaz), a fate that Nancy has thus far escaped? Maybe he’ll throw it in for free when he takes Pilar (Kate del Castillo) out.

And, I feel nothing for Dean (Andy Milder), who couldn’t be dumber for metaphorically getting back into bed with his shrew of an ex. Of course she was going to screw him! Wake up, sucker. What a waste, if that’s what they brought him back for. Hopefully he and Doug have plans for her … that is, after both of their penises heal.

Esteban has nothing to say about Cesar being shot, or being the rat that Pilar had in his organization? Unless he knew (which is possible), I can’t believe this is the same Esteban we first met last season, or even the one we got to know better earlier this year. No, this is an Esteban I can see Nancy loving, which I suppose preempts the question I’ve had: what does Nancy see in Esteban? We never knew Judah, but I think we have enough of a feel for him to wonder how she could love two men so different from one another.

I like the (intentional, or not) tip of the hat to Nacho Libre, what with Ignacio (Hemky Madera) playing the Mexican wrestling dog, or whatever. The movie sucked, but it was a cute bit of color dropped into a show that’s pretty damn good at that sort of thing. I also liked his 70s tux, but the crying was a tad too much; didn’t he beat a guy with his own golf club just a few weeks back?

Dr. Kitson (Alanis Morissette) resorts to stealing medical supplies from the home birthing room that Esteban had built for Nancy that she never used…. Whew! Try saying that 10 times fast. Funny, and good continuing use of her, including her being the doc called in to tend to Shane’s gunshot wound. It’s a hell of a lot better than her dating Andy.

And, while I don’t understand how he can do it in plain sight of his mother, I loved fourteen year-old Shane swigging the vodka after Cesar poured some into his wound, and floating back and forth in the pool yelling about the warm beer he was drinking. That’s the kooky Shane I’ve been missing. I think.

Silas got overlooked a bunch, but maybe his joining the family at Esteban’s house will fix that going forward. Only problem is that Doug isn’t moved in yet, and, so far, neither is Andy. Everyone will eventually follow, and how they get there could be half the fun, but I’m just worrying about yet another wasted week without Silas/Doug.

Things are over-the-top, but not in such a way as to make this season anything less than enjoyable. I’m not digging everything, but I anxiously await Weeds each and every week.

It’s how long until the next episode?

This episode was much better than the last several. I so hope Celia dies. Her character is useless and it would be perfect if she was killed before Nancy.

Shane drunk is priceless. :)
