If that’s really the way they’re going to write Cutter out of the show, it’s pretty realistic. Dealing with the anomalies is dangerous work, and to have the main character so abruptly taken down in the line of duty is brilliant. In America, this would never happen. I don’t know if last week’s episode was hyped as game changing, but it certainly caught me by surprise when he died at the end.
Luckily, his apparent replacement is an absolute blast to watch. Jason Flemyng’s charisma comes through in the crazy character of Danny Quinn, who we first met in the second episode of this season with the weird house gremlin. He had a presence even then that you couldn’t take your eyes off of him.
It’s also nice that he so gets under Jenny’s skin. His command of that helicopter in this episode’s battle with the G-Rex was stunning. No way he could fly like that after two lessons, even if they did go really well. Also, nice special effects on the dinosaur and its Jurassic Park inspired battle with pretty much everyone on the air strip.
With Connor’s anomaly closing machine finalized and the introduction of the military faction that has their own anomaly for study, the stakes are getting higher and higher in this series. In a way it’s almost grown beyond Cutter’s storyline with his estranged wife, though she’s still hanging around for now.
So even though I liked Cutter, I’ll be perfectly fine if he really is gone. I wish American shows (*cough*Heroes*cough*) had the balls to gun down a principal character to move the story along. Primeval is proof that a show like this with a great concept can survive cast changes. At least Connor and Abby are still hanging around with unresolved feelings. How can we live without that?

That episode appeared to be shot at Dunsfold Park. The 747 with the twin engine pods was a dead giveaway. Top Gear is shot there as well, and has a test track laid out on the runways. Would have been neat to see The Stig doing laps in a Pagani Zonda being chased by the Giganotosaurus! :)
I have to agree. I’d always thought Cutter was a weak link. He was just a tad too reserved and somewhat arrogant. And he brought Helen into the fray, which was unwarranted for us poor viewers. Dear Primeval…please let her be next. Pretty please with sugar on top?!
When they were in the “haunted house” and they introduced the character of Danny, I was hoping he would stick around. When he quit at the end, I expected him to pop back up, but to come in as such a force is incredibly welcome. Really enjoyed the last episode (minus yet another female criminal mastermind who I couldn’t care less about), so I’m excited to watch going forward.
PS – I loved the actor who played Connor when he was in Strange, and I think the actress who plays Abby is absolutely gorgeous.

I believe Cutter character is essential because he represents a type of individual we all run into in our daily lives. We haven’t seen the last of him, Helen or their buddy! The three of them may show up working together.
I live danny alot and has integrated in smoothly. There are to many new characters bringing a certain confusion.
I love the show and will continue to watch it.
They dropped two major characters, and now it looks like a third is leaving. The cast of a show is very important. The show just does not have the same feel without Cutter and I notice I’m not so very interested in watching it now. Big mistake. When you have a working formula in a series, stick with it. You are right, in America, this would never happen. I was among the many americans who loved the show, well, until now!
When Cutter was killed, he was an idiot to go back for Helen in the first place, I thought “Holy Cats! They really killed him!” In truth, his character was stagnating and not going anywhere. And then Jenny’s gone, no regrets there. The new guy, Danny, great infusion of ‘recklessness’ because when you’re dealing with dinosaurs on your tail, there’s no scientific answer. It’s them or you. Overall, good change. I like Connor and Abby, but those two have no sense detecting ‘creeps’. Him with his traitor girlfriend, and now Abby with her brother who probably lost ‘Rex’ in as a gambling bet. Her brother needs to be the next dinosaur ‘fodder’. Definitely!
