Was the Desperate Housewives finale anticlimactic?

Ever since the first episode of Desperate Housewives, when we learned of Mary Alice’s tragic death, I’ve felt like the show has always had one major mystery to be solved throughout the course of the season. In season five, that mystery was Dave — why he married Edie and moved to Wisteria Lane.

We learned part-way through the season why he was there, so that mystery was over. The only remaining thing, which was strung out over many episodes, was how he would seek revenge on Mike and Susan.

When it looked like Dave might involve innocent MJ in his devious plan, well, I have to admit, that had me worried. Especially when he revealed his evil plot to a tied-up Susan — he was going to stage a similar crash that killed his wife and daughter. Only this time, it would kill MJ and/or Mike.

OK, so Dave always had some horrible, psychopathic act in mind. But this particular plan wasn’t something that he schemed over for months. It came to him on the spur of the moment, when he realized that Mike was speeding towards them, and perhaps this was a good opportunity to make Mike and Susan pay for what they did.

Second, after “seeing” his sweet daughter in the car, Dave decided to let MJ out. So that part of the evil plan took a major curve (not that I would want a child harmed in any way — this isn’t Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, for cripes sake).  Still, the writers sort of took the easy way out here.

Also, Susan was the one actually driving the car when Dave’s wife and child were killed. So having Mike take the fall while Susan watched also seemed anticlimactic. Sure, she had to watch — and believe that her son was also in the car — but Dave was creepy enough to actually WANT someone to die, not just make it SEEM like someone would die. (And, apparently, he didn’t care if he himself died, since he would be involved in the accident, too).

I don’t know. Did this storyline seem anticlimactic to you? For me, the big shocker was Lynette finding out she was pregnant with twins. And that wasn’t even on our radar until the finale!
