Is Desperate Housewives getting its mojo back?

desperate_housewives_050309My favorite storyline of this week’s Desperate Housewives was the one where Tom and Lynette agreed to have sex every night for a month. Or some similar time period — can’t remember the exact logistics.

Anyway, it’s kind of funny that they’re doing this whole role reversal thing now, and by the time Lynette gets home from work, she’s dead tired and can’t stay awake for sex. And she’s not even all that interested. When she and the girls were playing poker, and Tom came down the stairs and said they only have 10 minutes until “tomorrow,” Lynette told the girls they’ve got it down to a science and to just deal her out for a couple hands.

I like these kinds of funnier storylines on the show, because it tends to get bogged down in dramatics sometimes. In fact, this whole episode managed to keep things light, like when Bree bribed MJ with macaroons so he’d invite Karl’s son to his party (even though he doesn’t like Karl’s son) so in return, Karl would represent Bree in her divorce from Orson. MJ finally agreed, saying something to the effect of “The things I do for macaroons.”

Then there was Gaby begging women to borrow their makeup after she agreed not to wear any to Carlos’ big awards dinner to show their daughter that makeup isn’t important.

Maybe that’s what’s been missing from Desperate Housewives this season. The smooth blending of drama and humor is what I loved about the series in season one. I think they got off track somewhere along the way.

Did you like the humor in this episode? Does the show seem to be getting some of its mojo back?
