Ok, they had me at “crime slut” with this episode. I had no idea that such a thing even existed, but it doesn’t sound like a bad way to make a living. You know, if you’re a slut who’s into crime sprees.
As Walsh explains it: ” A girl tells a guy he’s her only accomplice; meanwhile, she’s pulling jobs with half the guys in town.”
Aside from that awesome storyline, I’m starting to think that the Life on Mars writers are now working on The Unusuals. To wit:
Shraeger: “I could never be a slut.”
Walsh: “How do you know unless you try?”
Shraeger: “I have no interest in seeing that many penises.”
As far as Beaumont’s “secret,” I’m hoping there’s more to her story. It doesn’t seem like that big of a deal that she’s broke because of an old civil lawsuit. But now the cat’s out of that bag, at least with Shraeger, who was able to piece together the fact that Beaumont was the Latina girl in the pawn shop when the robbery went down. And the crime slut took Walsh’s watch! And yeah, he figured she was the girl in the pawn shop, too.
Not as much with Banks and Delahoy tonight, although I did appreciate them saying the guy with the brain tumor was a zombie. And it was sweet when Banks asked a girl out for a date by using flash cards.

I was on the fence about this show after the first episode, but it’s pulling me in with each subsequent one. After watching 3 of the 4 episodes that have aired I officially love this show.
Now it’s gonna get cancelled for sure…
The show after 3-4 episodes have less than 5 million viewers. There is no way the show lives unless Direct TV wants to save it.
Remember, only Banks kept calling the old man a zombie and Delahoy kept correcting him. He also took the old man’s Vonnegut book to better understand his mindset and told Banks to take the car back to the station to ask out the cute 911 operator while he stayed in the park to wait for the guy. It was a touching story.
That’s two episodes in a row now that a cop has chased suspects out a door only to lose them immediately on an NYC street.
I really like the stories, and the characters. They aren’t as unusual as I expected going in, but all in all, it’s a pretty decent program. In only a handful of episodes they’ve really fleshed out the characters, and I respect writers who can do that.
I have one gripe. The music. Strange rock riffs in odd places do not make the show “unusual” or quirky. Its distracting. Sometimes silence can prove a point very well.
I’m almost willing to call the show pitch-perfect so far. The talented cast alone is worth the watch. Let’s hope it stays.
