Nine reasons Burn Notice’s Jeffrey Donovan is worth every penny

jeffrey donovan michael westenBurn Notice is one of my favorite shows on television right now. And I must not be alone, because this week, Jeffrey Donovan got a handsome raise for his role as Michael Westen. And I mean handsome: his salary more than doubled. Wow. Is any actor really worth a doubled salary?

You can bet that Jeffrey Donovan is, and I’ve got nine reasons to prove it.

1. This is what happens to actors who finally make their mark, and that’s what Donovan has done with Burn Notice. Previously, he’s had a few shots, but mostly just guest spots (and a soap opera). Burn Notice has propelled Donovan to a new level of stardom, and he’s responsible for the success of the series. We’ll all be saying “Remember when Jeffrey Donovan did Burn Notice?” because this is his defining moment.

2. He’s pretty cute, isn’t he? Cuties in Hollywood bring in the viewers and consequently deserve the big bucks.

3. Donovan can actually act. I love how expressive his face is: we know when he’s yearning for Fi, appreciating Sam, feeling the danger, softening for his mom and mad at the world. And his sarcastic smile is worth the raise alone.

4. I think probably Donovan’s physique counts as another reason, in addition to his pretty face. Keith even has a man crush on this cut torso:

5. He’s a badass. A pretty, cut badass.

6. He holds his own next to Bruce Campbell. Campbell is one revered dude by some die-hard fans, and if Donovan doesn’t pale in comparison to Campbell, which he doesn’t, he’s worth the money. There is room for both of these men on Burn Notice.

7. Speaking of die-hard fans, Donovan’s got himself a cult following these days. I mean, this is a little bit creepy, don’t you think?

8. Maybe it’s the way he wears those sunglasses….

9. The ratings of Burn Notice are through the roof (in a cable, not network sort of way), even beating NBC’s ER in January (OK, a re-run but still) and consistently showing as one of the top rated cable shows each week. That’s probably the best reason as far as USA in concerned.

There! I’ve proven that Jeffrey Donovan deserved his raise, right? Did I forget any reasons?

Yeah, he’s hot. Definitely hot. That’s really the only reason I need. :-D

What’s so great about his acting is, it’s subtle. The fact that he can be so expressive without totally overdoing it speaks volumes. When the show first started I wasn’t that excited about it, for the simple fact that I had only ever seen him do characters that were total douchebags, and he played it well. Turns out, he’s just that good!
