Psych – Should Shawn and Juliet get together?

roday-lawson020409

The crafty scribes penning the scripts down at Psych HQ have been sending us all kinds of mixed signals over the past few episodes. In “Six Feet Under The Sea” we got the big hint from April.  She refused to go out with Shawn because she saw that there is something brewing with Juliet. Great, that seemed to set a tone. Not so fast…

When we rejoined the story in “Earth, Wind, And… Wait For It”, things went all Paula and Arsenio1 on us. Once again we find Shawn fawning over the hottie of the week, Milena Govich in this case. And any progression with Juliet was somewhere other than our television screens. To further confuse the situations, last week, “Any Given Friday Night” found Juliet again looking rather interested when Shawn trotted out on the field. What the hey? It leaves me wondering, what do you, television viewer, want for our two prospective lovebirds? Shawn and Juliet sittin’ in a tree? Or keeping the status quo?

It’s a situation that has a long history on television, and the conventional wisdom cautions against it. Most often, the waggling finger of dread points to Dave and Maddie getting together on Moonlighting as a cautionary tale against ever dropping the tension. I’ve never bought into that line of thinking with shows in general. And I’m even less inclined to do so in the case of Psych.

At this point, I’m pretty trusting in the powers that be over at Psych. Sure, there are landmines to dodge if they are to move forward with any kind of Shawn and Juliet romance. On the other hand, there is also a big bucket of laughs to be had as we watch it happen, no matter which way the relationship goes. And really, I don’t care if it actually works out. I find seeing the story play out, either way, much more interesting than seeing them dance around it endlessly.

I don’t think the two of them together would be detrimental in the least. The dynamic of all the characters is set up so that it would only add more fun fodder for the writers.

Also, I disagree about him chasing after the hottie of the week. He was doing it, yes, but at no time did he seem to do it without watching Juliet out of the corner of his eye. He was trying to push her to see the other chick found him hot. He always does that! :-)

Love this damn show.

I would love to see their romance progress. I actually kind of wish it would happen soon, because it’s getting just a little old with the “one step forward, two steps back” thing that is going on between them right now.

I don’t know… This show isn’t defined by the sexual tension between these two characters (as, I would assume, Moonlighting was). At the same time, I kind of like the on-again, off-again slow burn thing they’ve done. Its kind of like they are on a collision course, but traveling at the average speed of a turtle.

What would be awesome if they get together would be the rivalry from Gus and Juliet as they both love Shawn heheh

We saw it this week, Shawn wants it to happen

Shawn:
*girly voice*
“Yes Shawn, I do wish Gus was never born so that I could be your partner”

Gus:What?
Shawn: True story.
Gus: That’s messed up
