House – Cameron says yes to House

house-kutner-phone

(Season 5, Episode 13 – “Big Baby”)

Tonight’s episode was almost typical House, but something was just a bit off throughout every storyline. It was as if a writer who never worked on House before wrote this episode solo, because although it was still pretty good, it just didn’t click.

For instance, House is usually so quotable that I am pausing my DVR every few minutes to type in the good quotes. Just last week, I did an entire post full of the House quotes alone. This week, I still laughed out loud, but there just weren’t as many stand-alone quotes as there usually are.

And then, I usually understand everything in the episodes, but I was a little confused as to the House-Cameron dynamics this week. Was Cameron saying she wanted House? Was there more to it at the end when Cameron was talking with Cuddy and she said she’d always say yes to House? She blamed it on the fact that he trained her, but are we going there again? And what was that whole oral sex exchange about?

Sure, House was up to his usual obnoxious behavior when he was heckling Foreman and Thirteen about their relationship, and when he needled Cuddy about not loving the baby. And some of the other characters were on their game too:

  • After being told they were surprised she didn’t flinch when they cut her, the patient replies, “I just went to my happy place.” Thirteen says, “We can’t let House anywhere near this woman.” Kutner follows up with, “If you ever meet our boss, just yes and no answers, OK?”
  • Foreman’s and Cameron’s interaction-of-few-words was spot on: “Got a sec?” says Foreman; “Don’t be an idiot,” retorts Cameron, who’s obviously been informed of Foreman’s thoughts by Chase. Foreman just turns around and leaves.
  • Cuddy analyzes House in one sentiment: he’s always an ass, but he’s not ever just wrong.
  • Wilson faked the aged photo of the baby and gave Cuddy the photo that came with the frame. Ha!

A really entertaining episode which I highly enjoyed, yet something was just a little … off.

Other things:

  • There are two things getting old: making us think the patient is going to be someone else in the cold open (like the little girl peeing her pants), and the look on House’s face when some random conversation gives him the clue as to the patient’s diagnosis. OK, I lied. I kinda love it when House makes the connections and figures it out in the end.
  • Chase looked a bit unkempt, don’t you think? Grunge was so ’90s, dude …
  • Hmmmm … so Foreman loves Thirteen. That’s going to mix things up a bit.
  • Wow, Kutner, what a tattle-tale. Not becoming, just not becoming.

Your thoughts?

I am sick 13. There are several characters on the show and the writers seem to not give a damn about them, just 13.

If 13 doesn’t die by the end of the season, I will be very disappointed.

My mom said the same thing about Chase!! She saw him on screen and she said, ” Wow, he’s starting to look really rough!”

i feel the same way about the writers making us think the patient is going to be someone else in the opening, very much like Six Feet Under.

has anybody gone back and watched any old Black Adder to see Hugh Laurie in his start. great stuff.
