Reality Clack – Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood, Top Chef, The Hills

Martha Stewart on Top ChefI feel like I’m drifting in the doldrums, lost at sea. None of my absolute favorite reality shows are on these days. You see, my ever-lovin’ reality TV heart is into shows like Big Brother, The Amazing Race and Survivor. Gee, I could be a spokesperson for CBS reality shows, couldn’t I? Right now all they have on is Celebrity Password. I know some folks consider outright game shows like that to be reality television. I don’t. I’m even leery of calling talent contests reality shows. But the ratings of American Idol make me throw it in the mix.

Right now I’m hanging in with Top Chef and Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood for my reality fix. I’ll be a happier camper in February.

That was the week it was

If you haven’t been watching Top Chef (BRAVO, Wednesdays at 10 PM ET/PT), you might want to give it a look-see. This past week was the Christmas episode, “12 Days of Christmas” featuring guest Martha Stewart. Although she’d be the last person I’d want in my home just before the holidays, she’s perfect for the holiday episode! She would just keep me too stressed and busy. I’m stressed enough and busy enough through the holidays on my own, thank you very much.

The cheftestants had to get into the holiday spirit even though it was being filmed in the summertime. The clothing was a dead giveaway — tank tops aren’t the norm for December in NYC. We’re talking festive; we’re talking an array of holiday dishes, family comfort foods and even some treats, too. Give me snickerdoodles and I can be in the holiday spirit year ’round!

My other mainstay of late is Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood (E!, Sundays at 10:30 PM ET/PT). Akin to the celeb rocker reality shows in which the family interactions rule the show, it’s that ilk plus a bit of shiznet to boot. The latest episode has Snoop’s favorite place, his backyard shed man cave, all pimped out while he’s away in Las Vegas. Yeah, the events remind me a bit of the scripted events on Gene Simmons Family Jewels. It doesn’t matter. Snoop is so off-the-wall at times that he can be a hoot to watch! Fo’ shizzle, this can be entertaining! Check out this promo:

Then there’s The Hills. The season finale is tonight 8 PM ET/PT to 11:30 PM on MTV. I can’t take that much of this show all at once. It would give me nightmares about today’s social scene. Eek. Last week Heidi was foolish (and drunken) enough to agree to marry Spencer, a trainwreck of a manboy. I fear the finale might even be scarier. All my regular Monday night shows are in repeats. So I might glance at the finale, but I refuse to spend over three hours of my life on it.

In the news

ABC has released the list of new bachelorettes as well as our new bachelor for the upcoming season of The Bachelor. Can you believe this will be the thirteenth season? How time flies while you’re looking for love, eh? The show makes its two-hour season premiere on Monday, January 5 starting at 8 PM.

As always, it’s been real if not necessarily reality. See you next week!
