South Park: About Last Night…

Comedy Central

Comedy Central

(Season 12, Episode 12)

This episode called for an OMG/WTF moment because of the incredibly short amount of time Parker, Stone and the others had to put it all together in time to air tonight … or were they in on something much earlier than anyone could have imagined?

Obviously the bulk of the episode had to be shot ahead of time and work with either party having won the presidency last night. If you go back and watch the episode again, you can see that a few of the scenes with Obama and McCain in the heist club could have worked with either outcome. Just change up some of the dialogue and it all works out with the animation.

I could see the guys doing two different versions of the show and just flipping a switch tonight before the episode aired, but they had Obama’s freakin’ acceptance speech at the start. I know this isn’t anything very new, so what other shows have pulled off a similar feat within 12 hours of something that’s happened in the news?

Overall the episode wasn’t very good when compared to the rest of the season, but I did think it was cool to have something like this put together for tonight. I loved the shout-out to Ocean’s 11 and that the guys pulled off making fun of both parties rather equally. My damn DVR cut off just after Stan’s dad flips out about his missing TV, so I don’t know if they ever addressed where Joe Biden was with all of this going down.

Palin: “I just want to say to everyone who’s a little disappointed that we lost the election that there’s always next year. Maybe I’ll run for vice president again in 2009.”

Obama (later): “God she’s awesome.”

They had maybe 20 hours to make the episode, give the men the Emmy now. Amazing. And Obama dead grandmother, that was great too, sick like South Park is, but great.

i was in awe of the whole thing, hope to know how they made it. i was wondering the same thing about Joe Biden, he really was the most forgettable character of this election saga.

The thing I found the most hilarious about the episode is they would have spent more money on the campaigns then they would have gained by stealing the diamond. Typical government planning…

Trey Parker and Matt Stone said they only worked on the Obama version, instead of having two scenarios.
