Lost in Lost: Minor characters I would like to see more often

ABC

ABC

One of the things I love most about Lost is the deep and rich universe that it has created. There is a world far beyond the surface of the show, with loads of interesting characters both in flashbacks and in the present day. With the slew of main characters on the show, a lot of these minor characters only make fleeting appearances or disappear altogether. Sometimes, though, these bit players are even more interesting than the people they are playing second fiddle to.

We have been lucky; in the past, some minor characters have come to the forefront, such as Ben and Desmond. Both characters, now central to the plot of the show, started in what appeared to be guest spots. Who knows who will rise to the occasion this season and become a main player?

I certainly don’t, but I do know that there are some characters that have piqued my curiosity and I would love to see more of them. Come check out my list.

  • Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell): An important Other who appears to never age, Richard is a man shrouded in mystery. Hopefully with Ben off the island and John taking over leadership of the Others, Richard will take a larger role this season (it doesn’t hurt that Cane got canceled). In any case, we need to know more about Richard.
  • Matthew Abaddon (Lance Reddick): Last year, we were introduced to this man as he was assembling the research team aboard the freighter. In a later episode, we saw that he was an orderly while John was in the hospital rehabbing his broken back. What’s the deal with that? What angle is Abaddon playing? Is he part of the Others? Is he working for Charles Widmore? Is he in some third party faction? Lance Reddick is a regular on Fringe now, but luckily that show is produced by one of Lost’s creators, JJ Abrams, so there’s a good chance we’ll see Abaddon again.
  • Cassidy Phillips (Kim Dickens): Maybe it’s just because I love Kim Dickens and her Deadwood character, Joanie Stubbs, so much, but I want to see more of her on Lost. If you don’t recall, she was Sawyer’s long con who ended up having his daughter, Clementine. She also had an encounter with Kate while they were both on the run. With Kate having a mysterious promise to carry out for Sawyer, I bet we’ll be seeing Cassidy again soon. Smart money says that Sawyer asked Kate to check up on Clementine.
  • Danielle Rousseau (Mira Furlan): So what if she’s dead, I want more crazy French lady! I, along with many in the Lost community, think that Danielle’s time was cut too short. There is so much we don’t know about her backstory. How did she get to the island? What really happened to her crew? Is there really a sickness? Rumor has it that we might be getting this backstory even with Danielle taking a dirt nap on the island.
  • Sarah Shephard (Julie Bowen): Jack’s ex-wife probably doesn’t have any stories left on Lost, but I would still love to see more of her. Anyone who can cause so much pain to Jack is tops in my book. You to have to figure, though, that if she didn’t show up at Christian’s funeral at the end of last season, we probably won’t be seeing her again.

I know I’m leaving a lot of great characters out, but you don’t want to hear me prattle on forever. Give a shout out to your favorite minor players below.

Mira Furlan “Danielle” hasn’t filmed any footage for LOST this year, nor does she know of any plans for her to appear on LOST at any point this season. I’m betting that we won’t be seeing any more of her on the show.

The reason that they decided to shoot “Danielle” was that Mira was going to be unavailable for nearly three months last winter while she was working on a film titled “Turneja” in Serbia & Bosnia. This film is currently Serbia’s entry for the Foreign Film Oscar category, and won both the FIPRESCI Prize & Best Director Award at the Montreal Film Festival. Excellent movie, if you get a chance to catch it it’s well worth seeing.

Thanks for the info. I know I read somewhere that the producers are still planning on telling her backstory. It may have been from the comic con panel. Maybe it will be all in flashbacks with a younger actress? That would be too bad, she was outstanding in that role, would love to see her back on the show.

I would love to see Nester Carbonell added to the cast. Looking at the cast list is one of my favorite parts of a LOST season premiere.
