(Season 3, Episode 4)
Not that you needed any further convincing, but I am officially one effed-up individual. Dexter not only steals most of his proposal from someone else — a crazed killer, no less — but he’s also a serial killer … and I got all choked up at his proposal. What the hell is with that? It’s this damn head cold, I tell ya. Yeah, that’s what it is.
I said last week that I think Ramon is the Dexter to Miguel’s Harry, but in seeing how erratic Ramon acts when his temper is flaring, it’s hard to believe he’d be a killer for long without making major mistakes and getting caught. It’s still on the table as a possibility, as far as I’m concerned.
Dexter voice-overs a lot about playing “roles” and what that means to his relationship with Rita. He’s trying desperately to do what a normal person would in his situation with Rita’s pregnancy, but he’s so far removed from having true feelings for someone that he has to take cues from others he sees, including damaged victims of crime.
Dexter looked at Fiona’s face and thought that it had the look of true love, when in fact she turned out to be putting on an act of her own. A strange sort of inspiration for him, though for Dexter, not out of the ordinary.
Why did Rita hide her pregnancy at the sake of her job? I would think that if having a job is so important to her that she’d at least pull that card when her boss approached her, at least as a last resort when she was about to be fired.
For the past couple of episodes, we’ve been seeing that Miguel is definitely not a squeaky clean individual, and if this whole Chickie Hynes thing is any indication, we’ll be seeing him eventually go down for something big this season — possibly murder. Maria is obviously taking a cue from what she sees as a complete failure to recognize corruption when it’s right in front of her with what happened with Doakes, being proactive and taking no chances with Miguel.
I’m not really sure what to say about Angel’s little transgression other than: damn, that was a close call! I half wonder if the undercover cop, Barbara, will wind up befriending Angel in subsequent episodes. A new love interest, perhaps? Do we really care?
I’m still not convinced Yuki is who she claims. The fact that she’s so hell-bent in getting Deb to snoop on Quinn, and seeing how much of a smooth talker he is with the ladies, there’s more to what’s wrong with Quinn than supposed corruption on the job. I’d keep an eye on Yuki, for sure. And Quinn.

I don’t know who the hell Yuki is, but she’s getting on my nerves. And I totally missed why Deb was so pissed at Quinn. I feel lost where they are concerned. Like I have missed the entire point of them being on the show. Can anyone shed any light?
Well, Keith, I was touched at the proposal, too. I think it’s because in spite of Dex saying he is this big ole actor in the game of life, he has really wanted to be normal. He did everything he did for the love of his father. I think he really does love that family, and all it represents. And he knows he’s not acting, but yet he continues to pretend like we don’t get it in the voice-overs. It’s like he’s trying to talk himself into thinking he couldn’t possibly want anything “normal.”
I’m still not sure what I think about this season, and part of me even wonders if Miguel knows Dexter is a killer and is bringing him into the fold to take him down. I guess time will tell!
OK, Yuki is Internal Affairs and she’s trying to take down Quinn, but we don’t know what he has done, just the Yuki wants Deb’s help and will give her the detective shield if she does help.
Or maybe Miguel wants to use Dexter in some way, b/c we know Miguel is going to turn out dirty b/c the the Chickie Hynes thing. Maybe he wants Dexter to do some killing for him???
Deb’s reactions go back to the first season — she fell for the Ice-Truck Killer — she fell in love with a killer, and in Deb’s world, you’re either good or bad. She questioned her very ability to be a cop if she could be so tricked by a bad guy that she fell in love with him.
I think that Deb’s reactions to Quinn are still a reflection of her doubting her ability to size up a person’s inherent quality. She sees Quinn as being rather good at his job, but then she’s got this IA b*tch telling her that she’s being fooled again. and IA would have picked Deb because of her past — they’re playing her.
Then, add in that the whole department thinks that they were fooled by Doakes — and Deb worked quite a bit with Doakes — and the whole question of whether someone is really good or bad, or if you can tell no matter how well you think you know them… Deb is confused, and when Deb is confused, she makes poor decisions. the whole Quinn/IA thing is a setup for something by the end of the season.
If they didn’t make such a big deal out of Deb’s butt buzzing with the text messages, I’d almost suspect that the IA agent is Deb’s subconscious trying to tell her that something’s wrong with Quinn. After all, nobody has actually seen the IA agent but Deb, right?
