Sarah Palin may get her revenge on SNL

NBC

NBC

For the past several weeks, Tina Fey has helped lead SNL to a creative and ratings resurgence with her freakishly spot-on impression of VP hopeful, Sarah Palin. Now, according to reports, there is serious talk in the McCain camp of preparing a response. One possibility? Palin may appear on Saturday Night Live, not as herself, but as her doppelganger, Tina Fey.

Word is that Palin may be doing a spoof of Fey’s American Express commercial, either on the next new Saturday broadcast airing on October 18, or the on one of the new SNL Weekend Update Thursdays. Ordinarily, I’m all for politicians appearing as themselves; I thought it was great that John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton all appeared on SNL during the primary season. However, I can’t muster the same excitement over a possible Palin appearance, probably since, unlike the other three, she’s just so damn unlikeable.

Now I’m not trying to get into a political discussion here; mainly because any time politics are discussed on the internet it seems as though it always degenerates into barely coherent foaming-at-the-mouth diatribes. My problem with Palin appearing on Saturday Night Live is simply that every time she drops a “g” off of a word, a little bit of my soul dies.

The reason that Fey’s impression has struck such a cord with audiences is that it’s not so much satire as it is, uh, an accurate portrayal of a public figure. It’s more “documentary” than “mockumentary,” if you will. Sarah Palin’s entire “hockey mom” persona is so ridiculous that it nearly defies comedy; to the point that if left in the hands of anybody other than the eminently talented Tina Fey, a comedic impression would be completely unnecessary.

I find just watching Palin play Palin is so exhausting, what with the folksy expressions and the answering the question that she wants to answer as opposed to the one that she was asked, that I don’t need to see Palin play Fey. It is less than a month before the election. How about instead of having Sarah Palin practice her flat Chicago Tina Fey accent, she spends this time practicing her impression of a viable and/or reasonable Vice-Presidential candidate.

The less she is on my TV the better…..

And until this minute I was hopeful that all the politics would’ve stayed over at TV Squad. So much for hope.

TV is full of politics, you don’t like it just read it.

What you typed doesn’t make a lot of sense. I can only assume you meant to say, “you don’t like it don’t read it.”

I see you’re still a bundle of negativity everywhere you go. I guess that just like TV is full of politics, the internet is full of assholes.

Yeah, you being one of them.

This is a TV blog for people who watch TV, you don’t like politics then just don’t read the blogs about them!

Shocking how easy that is!

You should take a note from your own advice and avoid reading my comments if you don’t like them…and we all know you don’t like anything. You, like other young and immature males, think that crapping all over anything someone else likes makes you somehow “cool”. If you really want to make something out of yourself, get a job and move out of Mommy’s basement. And, no, selling Spock ears at geek conventions is not a real job.

“Now I’m not trying to get into a political discussion here; mainly because any time politics are discussed on the internet it seems as though it always degenerates into barely coherent foaming-at-the-mouth diatribes.”

If you really meant that you would have never written this piece in the first place. Why go to the lengths to say that only to then do that very thing?

“…it was great that John McCain, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton all appeared on SNL during the primary season. However, I can’t muster the same excitement over a possible Palin appearance, probably since, unlike the other three, she’s just so damn unlikeable.”

I can understand being annoyed by her…but unlikeable? She’s the only thing keeping the McCain ticket afloat…and its pretty much entirely based on her likability and relatability to Middle America (or whatever you want to call the half of the country that is keeping the GOP in this race). Is your loathing of the dropped ‘G’ so intense that you can’t see that she’s a family oriented yet empowered woman who has achieved one of the highest political positions in the land (there’s only 50 governorships…) who happens to connect with a LARGE group of voters in this country? I’m not saying she’s going to, should, or that I even want her to win…I just think that she’s at least as likable as Hillary (who is not really that likable, or relateable, at all in my opinion).

Don’t ever visit Alaska, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, or Eastern Montana if you “g” drops make you dislike people.

I agree wholeheartedly with every point you’ve made. This article and the accompanying “disclaimer” are akin to when someone says something obviously offensive then suffixes it with the statement “no offense”. It’s disingenuous to say the least.

“she’s just so damn unlikeable.”

Oh great. Another person on the internet trying as hard as they can to alter people’s votes. Probably not as pathetic as Hollywood’s incessant, unfunny attempts.

I’m not sure which is more nauseating; John McCain or Bush-bashers.

“Now I’m not trying to get into a political discussion here…”

Yeah, right. Either you’re a liar, a coward or an idiot. Why not just walk into a warehouse filled with fireworks carrying a functioning flame thrower and say, “I’m not trying to start any fires here.”

If you don’t want to get into political discussions, then don’t start one, but you already knew that.

I’ve met several people from Alaska and not one of them speaks with Palin’s accent. Did she grow up in the Midwest or is the accent put-on in an effort to make midwesterners identify with her?

I’d much rather see Palin do more news interviews then try to imitate Tina Fey. After all, the country is in crisis.
