Dexter – Finding Freebo

Showtime

Showtime

(Season 3, Episode 2)

Well, there you have it — Dexter’s officially going to be a daddy. This is where the term “jumped the shark” gets way, way overused, and fans start to tremble in fear, thinking their favorite show is going to introduce something that’s meant to be game-changing, only to have it puke all over itself.

While adding a baby to the mix wouldn’t necessarily ruin the show, I’m having a hard time believing we’ll actually see Dexter with a child. And that’s what makes me nervous, because that can only mean something pretty horrific is going to happen to Rita and/or the baby.

Speaking of the baby, the kid they got to play Dexter’s could-be son — the one on the swing set — was damn creepy looking. If that’s what the casting folks were going for on this show when they brought that kid on, they hit a home run.

Now, let’s cut through to the biggest “game changer” of, at least, the season. As I said last week, Dexter is walking on a dangerously slippery slope lately, making way too many mistakes for even us viewers to swallow at times. Last week he makes an unplanned kill; this week he makes a sort-of planned kill, but is basically caught in the act. The writers sure know how to keep our fingernails unnaturally trim, don’t they?

Up to this point, I’ve made two conclusions as to what’s going to play out this season:

1) Miguel saw Dexter with a bloody knife, though he never saw a body and only took Dexter’s word for what he’d done. If past seasons are any indication, it’s easy to guess that Miguel will at some point have to point a finger at Dexter, but there’s absolutely no evidence there to point to because of that little detail.

2) The brother of Miguel’s that Dexter gutted will turn out to be the product of Miguel’s Harry-like code. We’ll find out that Miguel sent his brother to kill Freebo, as a vigilante. Now, because of his brother’s untimely death, Miguel will start to bring Dexter in to replace him.

Don’t worry; I based none of those conclusions on what comes in the next few episodes.

How do you think things might play out?

Of course Rita will die. If you watched the preseason ads it made it very clear that either the girlfriend or the sister dies.

Huh. I seriously never saw those ads. See, that makes the whole thing more disappointing, how easy it is to figure out what’s going to happen. It seems nothing is a red herring on this show.

Here is the ad…

“Because two of them can keep a secret if one of them is dead.”

Well they only showed Dexter, the girlfriend and the sister, so I’m guessing one of them have to die. Pregnant girlfriend? i think we know who dies. This show has never been huge on total shockers and with each passing season it gets a little less fun.

about your 1) point, we got a close on the bloody shirt of the older prado… so that has to meant something!

True … you’ll see soon enough what it means within the next few episodes.

Anybody get the feeling that maybe Freebo wasn’t a serial killer. He didn’t seem to understand why Dexter was killing him and then in the previews it showed more people turning up murdered using Freebo’s methods. Was he only attributed to the killings of those two girls prior to Teegan? Cause maybe he was found innocent because he was really innocent.

Freebo wasn’t exactly found innocent, he was let go because of a technicality (I think they said it was a problem with the search warrant). My guess is that he killed the first 2 girls (because nothing was mentioned about them having patches of skin removed) and the Teegan was killed by someone else who kills again next week.
