Cultures clash when east meets west in The Wolverine

the-wolverine

While commercially successful, the X-Men films have been been a roller coaster of sorts ranging from completely awesome to downright laughable. So where does ‘The Wolverine’ fall into the mix?

Wolverine is probably the most iconic alumni in Marvel’s vast gallery of mutant characters. He’s so popular that 20th Century Fox saw fit to tap him for his own film series spin-off after the original X-Men trilogy derailed into laughable obscurity in X-Men 3: The Last Stand. After an equally embarrassing film debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Hugh Jackman has returned to play the titular character Logan (aka “Wolverine”) in this summer’s mutant action romp The Wolverine.

Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki – Interview video from the 2013 SDCC

Once again we got to sit down with Jared Padalecki of ‘Supernatural’ to talk about the upcoming ninth season of the show.

You may not be able to make out the first question asked at the table, but it went a little something like this. I happened to be taking some photos over at another table Mr. Padalecki was at, and I overheard him say something along the lines of, “I really wish I could tell you. Really! I just can’t!” When I told my table what I’d heard, and when we saw Jared was heading to our table next, we were all thinking: challenge accepted. Unfortunately, though we feebly tried to convince him that Bob Singer told us it was OK for him to spill is secret to us, it was no dice.

So what would challenge Padalecki’s acting chops so much for the entirety of next season? Will he have a doppelgänger and be playing two roles? Play an evil Sam?

The CW’s The 100 – Interview video from the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con

I sat down with the cast and crew of CW’s new show ‘The 100′ at San Diego Comic-Con. Hear what they have to say about their characters, how the show will be structured and what to expect from the season’s 13 episodes.

When I first screened CW’s new shows, The 100 was one I was really looking forward to, and the pilot did not disappoint. Thus, I was eager to talk to the cast and crew at Comic-Con this year. I knew about Eliza Taylor, Marie Avgeropoulos, Jason Rothenberg, Matt Millar and Henry Ian Cusick but either through the confusion that is SDCC or just my own forgetfulness, I was surprised when Isaiah Washington also walked through the door (If you didn’t know, I’m a big Grey’s Anatomy fan).

So sit back and enjoy. I appreciated both Taylor and Avgeropoulos’ takes on their characters, especially how much they both talk about how different — and horrible — their childhoods were. Cusick had several great perspectives on his character Councillor Kane, specifically about the difference between making hard decisions and actually being evil. The last clip is one of my favorites: Isaiah Washington apparently has a great deal of respect for showrunner Jason Rothenberg, and pays him a very high compliment.

James McAvoy gets the star treatment on home video

177-TRANCE-PS.tif

Movie on DVD and Blu-ray July 23 include ‘Trance,’ ‘Welcome to the Punch,’ ‘Starbuck,’ ‘Love and Honor,’ ‘Kiss of the Damned,’ ‘Twixt,’ ‘The Ice Storm’ and more!

If you’re a fan of James McAvoy, then this is a very good week for you as two of his latest films arrive on home video after very limited theatrical runs in the US — Trance and Welcome to the Punch. Another film that had limited theatrical distribution, the delightful Starbuck (from Montreal and in French), also comes to home video. The film is funny and touching and should be seen before the Americanized remake, starring Vince Vaughan, hits theaters in a couple of months. If you like vampire movies, a new indie, Kiss of the Damned, starring Milo Ventimiglia has been making the rounds and looks pretty interesting. The July 23 releases are rounded out with more small films and some classics from The Criterion Collection, so take a look at our shopper’s guide to see all of the week’s new home video releases. San Diego Comic-Con: Days Three and Four

Joss Whedon NerdHQ

Comic-Con 2013 has sadly come to an end. I didn’t get a chance to share with you the highlights of my day from Saturday, so today’s post includes both days.

All week at Comic-Con, I’ve been trying to provide a post each evening covering the highlights of the day (Day One and Day Two). I’d known all along however, that I would probably fail at trying to complete one Saturday night. I was right.

That being said, now that it is Sunday evening and the con has come to a close, I can take the time to fill you in on the goings on of the last two days. Sunday is always the worst day at Comic-Con, primarily because it marks the end of the experience. It is a little tough knowing that next year’s convention doesn’t start for 360 days.

But enough of me whining; let’s get to the awesomeness of the last couple of days: Continue reading 'San Diego Comic-Con: Days Three and Four' »

Supernatural spin-off in the works

Robert Singer

Executive Producer Robert Singer let loose at SDCC with something I don’t think any of us knew about yet: a ‘Supernatural’ spin-off in the works.

During the press room round-table interviews for Supernatural today, Executive Producer Bob Singer mentioned something sort of in passing that surprised the hell out of everyone at our table: a Supernatural spin-off was being developed, the premise to be introduced in the upcoming ninth season.

Ronald D. Moore discusses some of his new show ‘Helix’ and more, including what he thinks of a ‘BSG’ 10th anniversary reunion next year at SDCC.

Sorry about the blacked out portion of the first couple of minutes. Camera malfunction. But, I got the audio of that part, so we’re good.
