G.I. Joes, ghostly pirates and a melting man come to home video

g-i-joe-retaliation-image03

Movies on DVD and Blu-ray July 30th include ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation,’ ‘Black Rock,’ ‘Assault on Wall Street,’ ‘The Devil’s Backbone,’ ‘The Fog,’ ‘The Incredible Melting Man,’ ‘Peggy Sue Got Married,’ ‘That Touch of Mink,’ ‘God’s Little Acre,’ and much more!

With only one major theatrical release coming to home video this week, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the real action comes from the catalog titles hitting Blu-ray, some for the very first time. The Shout! Factory spin-off Scream Factory, which specializes in great and obscure horror films from the 70s and 80s, hits another couple of home runs with special editions of John Carpenter’s The Fog and the MST3K favorite, The Incredible Melting Man. Hotchka! Marilyn Monroe is also represented with Blu-ray editions of Niagara and Bus Stop, and more classics get the high def treatment, including That Touch of Mink, Love Me Tender, God’s Little Acre (starring Tina Louise), Peggy Sue Got Married, and the campy Fire Maidens of Outer Space. To see all of the new and old films coming to home video on July 30th, have a look at our shopper’s guide and click on a link to get more information or to make a purchase. Remember, any purchase you make through a link helps support our efforts here at CliqueClack, and for that, we thank you.

The Following – Interviews from San Diego Comic-Con 2013

The cast and creators of Fox’s ‘The Following’ sat down with us at the San Diego Comic-Con. Listen in to hear about the time jump, what James Purefoy thinks Joe Carroll needs to change and just how wonderful Valorie Curry is.

The first season of The Following was one hell of a roller coaster ride. If The Vampire Diaries‘ Julie Plec is the queen of killing of characters indiscriminately, then her partner-in-crime Kevin Williamson is the king. Chasing Joe Carroll cost the FBI — and the cast — several recurring characters in the first season, and that’s not even counting the civilians, family members and countless other collateral damage caught up in the wake of his “following.” Continue reading 'The Following — Interviews from San Diego Comic-Con 2013' »

Graceland delivers a big twist, but do we know the real story?

Graceland Who is Odin

USA’s had been promoting last week’s ‘Graceland’ as game-changing. It was a great twist, but is Odin really who we think he is?

USA’s Graceland has been one of the few new shows this summer I’ve been able to latch on to this year (Under the Dome and Orange is the New Black are the others, but I’m still not sure how to classify anything from Netflix). According to USA’s corporate messaging, the undercover cop drama indicates the beginning of a shift to telling more serious (read: darker) stories. Don’t get me wrong, I love shows like Suits and Covert Affairs – well, less this season in the latter’s case – but I think this type will be good for the network (and great for viewers whose names rhyme with Tivey Pest).

In the spirit of this new direction, Graceland delivered a “game-changing” twist in this week’s episode “Goodbye High.” (Spoiler alert: turn back now if you haven’t yet seen the episode) We finally learn that Odin, the shadowy drug-dealer who is the subject of Charlie’s investigation, is actually friendly neighborhood FBI agent Paul Briggs. We’ve had reason to suspect Briggs of something since the pilot; the secret investigation by new kid on the block Mike Warren has been one of the main plot arcs of the show thus far. The cast of Warehouse 13 on the series finale – SDCC 2013 video

Eddie McClintock, Saul Rubinek & Allison Scagliotti of ‘Warehouse 13′ talk about their thoughts on the series finale.

When sitting down with the cast of Syfy’s Warehouse 13 at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, one big thought on my mind was what everyone thought of the final episode. That is, assuming they all knew what was in store for us. As it turned out, they had all read the script — the episode hadn’t been shot yet. I just wish I got to talk to more of them.

Putting the wraps on SDCC 2013

Keith with Predator

The 2013 San Diego Comic-Con was over days ago, but its memory — like all other SDCC’s — forever lives on. Here were my personal highs and lows from this year’s event.

Before embarking on my (what has become) yearly jaunt to San Diego for the International Comic-Con, I wrote a list of a few things I was most looking forward to. My list today is a bit different, for what truly were my high points of the event.

Let’s start with my previous list and go over what worked and didn’t work.

Hop-Con: The W00tstout Launch Festival

Hop-Con: The W00tstout Launch Festival — It turns out this was a spot-on choice to be on my list, and it definitely earned a spot near the top. Coming off a long-ass flight from heat-wavey Boston, having some GOOD beers — with a friend I hadn’t seen in a year, outside, in upper-60-degree temps — was a perfect way to kick the weekend off. The pouring was generous and the brews were strong. To top things off, I finally got to have that beer Wil Wheaton and I had been talking about having together for years. OK, so it wasn’t the 20 Guinnesses we owed him for every new CliqueClack writer who came on board, but it was pretty fucking cool.

Dexter: Father of the year?

dex-harrison

Is Dexter neglecting his son this season, or is it the writers?

Don’t blame Robbie Rist; he was just a child actor looking for a job when he walked into the Brady home as the now infamous Cousin Oliver. He didn’t start the problem; he just became the face for it. It’s a common trend for shows that are long in the tooth to add a new baby, cute wise-cracking neighbor or distant cousin to the recurring cast in an effort to spice up their shark-jumped story-lines. In theory it makes sense. The main characters need new stories, challenges, and responsibilities to stave off monotony and adding in a young burden – I mean child – instantly raises the stakes and adds a new avenue of conflict. The problem, of course, is it also threatens to completely change the dynamic of the entire show.

Crystal Fairy is a trippy journey with an unpleasant start and an emotional end

crazy fairy

‘Crystal Fairy’ is nearly a satire of the voyage of self-discovery with the aid of a manic pixie dream girl; but it ends up being a very old fashioned story about acceptance.

Drugs are bad, m’kay? Oh, is that an oversimplification? Well, how about this one. The condescension of an overseas American experiencing “culture” is one of the ugliest things they can do. Also a bit too simplistic? Then perhaps you’ll agree that nudity from someone that’s very confident of their body can be off-putting. Still nothing? Well, at least we can all agree that sometimes nature can be beautiful and dangerous. After all, that’s where drugs are derived from, right? Oh, have I gone too far again? Or perhaps … not far enough?
