Dancing with the Stars 17 promises spectacle and pathos

DWTS 17 cast

It’s time to head back to the ABC ballroom but before we do, let’s dish a little about season 17’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ cast.

Well, it’s almost ballroom dancing time as the 17th season of Dancing with the Stars reveals the celebs feverishly working on their dance moves before the season premiere. In addition to the new roster of stars and pros, there is also another new twist to the competition this year – one show per week! There will be no Tuesday night results show (which I’ll miss because it was more of a music and variety showcase that just happened to feature an elimination), so it will be interesting to see how they handle the elimination week to week.

But before we get to all the competition and eliminations, fellow Clacker Kim Tibbs and I huddled together in our lavishly appointed CliqueClack Conference Room to have a look at the new stars and dish about their chances.

Vin Diesel’s new movie is Riddick-ulous

Film Title: Riddick

With nine years between ‘The Chronicles of Riddick’ and ‘Riddick,’ you’d think someone could have come up with a better script.

If you’re planning to see the new Riddick movie, a little background is in order. The first film, Pitch Black (2000), was the story of a cargo ship transporting passengers and dangerous criminal Richard B. Riddick (Vin Diesel) – on his way to prison – that passes through the tail of a comet and sustains near-catastrophic damage. The crew awakens from cryo-sleep in time to land the ship on a nearby planet with three suns that keep it in perpetual daylight. Riddick escapes but is captured by another passenger, Johns (Cole Hauser), and brought back to the ship. A discovery is made that a once every 22 years eclipse is imminent, and Riddick is the least of everyone’s worries.

Sons of Anarchy season 6 preview – Death, violence and mayhem: Just another day in Charming

sons-of-anarchy season 6 premiere

The ‘Sons of Anarchy’ season six premiere is so completely action-packed and violent, that you’ll be wondering what else can possibly happen to SAMCRO. One thing’s for certain: for whomever survives, things will never be the same.

Think of a time when you were happy. When you were relaxed, full of optimism for the future, and everything just felt right in the world. Hold on to that thought, because after you watch the Season 6 premiere of Sons of Anarchy, you’ll need to be able to access those pleasant memories in order for you to get through the day as a functioning adult. I don’t want to be hyperbolic here, but I wanted to simultaneously vomit and cry within the first five minutes.

I don’t want to be hyperbolic here, but I wanted to simultaneously vomit and cry within the first five minutes.

And I mean that as a compliment.

Kurt Sutter and the other SOA writers do not mess around.

Just when you think there’s no dark passage left unexplored, no violent stone left unturned (and then used to bash someone’s face in), they up the ante
Just when you think there’s no dark passage left unexplored, no violent stone left unturned (and then used to bash someone’s face in), they up the ante and take you to a place so dark and twisted, that the fact it’s on basic cable is shocking.

When we left season five, Jax had framed Clay for murder, Tara was on her way to jail on a similar charge, and Otto, well … Otto bit off his own tongue, so the “who’s having the shittiest day” competition was really too tough to call.

Now You See Me, The Lords of Salem, and MST3K: The Movie come to video

NOW YOU SEE ME

New on home video September 3: ‘Now You See Me,’ ‘The Lords of Salem,’ ‘The Iceman,’ ‘Empire State,’ ‘Fun Size,’ ‘Arthur Newman,’ ‘Cockneys vs Zombies,’ ‘Idle Hands,’ ‘Creepshow 2,’ and much more!

A lot of new movies are coming to home video this week … and most of them barely registered in theaters even with some big names attached. The biggest title of the week got an early digital debut on August 30th, and now you can own the hit heist thriller Now You See Me on DVD and Blu-ray. It’s a pretty terrific film. Also making its video debut is Rob Zombie’s latest horror flick The Lords of Salem. The film got a theatrical run in Europe but seems to have bypassed US cinemas. It may be notable to some cult movie fans for its casting of Patricia Quinn (The Rocky Horror Picture Show) as one of the film’s witches. The well-reviewed The Iceman, starring Man of Steel‘s Michael Shannon, is also released this week. Catalog titles getting the high-def treatment include Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie, The Fugitive, the Ace Ventura movies, and Mario Bava’s Bay of Blood. And Marvel fans can get an early digital release of Iron Man 3 before it comes to DVD and Blu-ray! To see all of this week’s releases, and some titles available now for pre-order, have a look at our shopper’s guide and click on a link to get more information or to make a purchase.

Are summer TV shows more enjoyable than fall TV shows?

baby

It’s the age old question – is summer television better than fall television? Writer Jaylen Christie thinks so! With programs such as ‘Devious Maids,’ ‘Baby Daddy,’ and ‘The Soul Man,’ this summer has been rather enjoyable!

It seems to be an accepted fact among my colleagues and friends that I’m not particularly fond of scorching temperatures – which is rather interesting considering that summer is one of my all-time favorite seasons. You see, I am a big fan of summer television. In fact, I honestly believe it’s the best form of broadcast programming. While there may be some individuals who don’t particularly share my sentiment, I stand by my unadulterated belief. Simply put, summer TV is damn awesome.

Don’t believe me? Take a gander at your local listings.

I’ve always found diversity to be the spice of life. To that end, I’ve become hooked on several dissimilar, yet remarkably entertaining, shows this summer. The USA Network has become known for offering television programs that are light and fluffy. I’m a big fan of Royal Pains which is one of the shows that I’ve been watching on the network. In fact, it’s become a part of my Wednesday night staple along with the hilarious Baby Daddy on ABC Family, and the always funny The Soul Man on TV Land. On Saturday mornings, my television is locked on Cartoon Network for Beware the Batman, and my Sunday evenings are spent watching Devious Maids on Lifetime.
