CliqueClack has partnered with Warner Brothers Pictures to offer readers in the Baltimore, DC and Virginia Beach areas an opportunity to attend an advance screening of the new sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, Brendan Gleeson, and Noah Taylor.

Cruise stars as Major William Cage, an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop, forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again … and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.

When fate sends Dr. Paul Lewis (Kitsch) their way, unemployed fisherman Murray French (Gleeson) mobilizes the town to do everything they can to convince the fast living, jazz loving, cricket playing doctor that their sleepy harbour is a paradise tailor-made just for him.

Covert Affairs, Suits, The Bob Newhart Show and more come to home video

The USA Network is preparing to gear up for its new summer schedule, and to help prepare you for the new seasons of Covert Affairs (season five premieres June 24) and Suits (season four premieres June 11), you can get caught up on the past seasons this week. Fans of British mystery and drama can watch the recently aired seasons of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Wallander, and Doctor Who fans can go on An Adventure in Space and Time. Fans of FX’s The Bridge can check out the original Danish series to compare, and we now have proof that Danny Trejo will appear in anything with the release of Ghostquake, another in a long line of Syfy original movies. Classic TV buff will be happy to finally have the complete The Bob Newhart Show on DVD, and Dan Curtis’ Dracula gets a spiffy new Blu-ray release. Two versions of Endless Love come to home video

It’s a very slow home video release week with the updated Endless Love making its debut alongside the original, which gets a new DVD release. If you’re looking for something that you may have heard of but it slipped through the cracks, new smaller movies coming to home video this week include The Trials of Cate McCall, Gambit, Journey to the West (from the director of Kung Fu Hustle) and Cheap Thrills. One big title getting an early digital only release before it comes to DVD and Blu-ray is the latest Liam Neeson action thriller Non-Stop. Older titles getting new DVD and Blu-ray releases include The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Red River, both from Criterion, a re-release of How To Train Your Dragon (just in time for the sequel), and a new special edition of the classic Sleepaway Camp. Hankerin’ for a hunka Tillamook cheese

With people? You just never know.

That’s the beauty of people. We’re individuals with our own preferences, likes and dislikes, quirks and kinks.

And while I consider myself people — regardless of the fact several of my fellow CliqueClack colleagues think otherwise — I believe each and every one of us, as people, have the right to enjoy things that give us pleasant pause or that we gravitate toward.

Like, say … cheese for instance.

Me? I like cheese. I even love cheese at times. All kinds of cheese. I don’t consider myself a cheese freak or any sort of pretentious cheese connoisseur, but I do enjoy the stuff. Habanero jack cheese … a Jarlsberg accompanied with fruit … Muenster … some smoked black pepper variety … a good bleu … fresh Parmesan … a striking horseradish-infused jack … a dill Havarti. Mmmmmmmm … cheese.

Then? Going the opposite direction can yield other options as well. Avoiding objects or situations or particular choices we find displeasing can bring a certain amount of joy as well.

So when I saw a few of the new Tillamook County Creamery Association cheese ads which have recently sprung up on television, I was happy I had options in both the like and dislike departments, specifically to both enjoy and grimace equally at the spots. Blended is a sad attempt to capitalize on the good memories of Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore

It’s easy to wish to go back to the successes of the past, especially when they worked so well. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore first starred together in the classic movie The Wedding Singer, which some people (myself included) consider his best movie. The pair had a lot of charisma and a very sweet love story in a silly but very funny movie.

The pair reunited in 50 First Dates, which suffers from a lot of Sandler’s worst tendencies of lowbrow humor, but actually had quite a touching resolution, if a bit unusual and slightly creepy. I liked both movies, although one is clearly superior to the other. But those movies are more about younger lovers and less mature times, so it’s not unreasonable to consider a film about two older people that still might connect. That said, no.

Jon Favreau’s Chef is a lot more than half-baked

Conflict in life can come from many places, but a common theme in entertainment is the conflict between desires and achievement, or the concept of attaining self-fulfillment. A worker drone who wants to be a famous author, a fry-cook who wants to be a radio DJ, or perhaps someone in an industry unable to gain the success they want. Because success can be defined in many ways, either in monetary achievement, fame, respect, or creative expression. A banker might desperately want to do something wildly different that doesn’t provide as much money. And then there’s the possibility that you’re the famous director of such acclaimed and beloved movies as Elf and Iron Man, but whose recent movies (Iron Man 2 and Cowboys and Aliens) may not be that great. Perhaps you already have enough money and just want to have some creative control. If so, you may just be Jon Favreau. Or maybe that’s just a guess.

Chef is, of course, the latest film from writer-director Jon Favreau, in which he plays Carl Casper, a celebrity chef in an expensive LA restaurant who hasn’t been as famous in recent years. He finds himself disillusioned by the repetitive menu despite having some sort of thing going with beautiful hostess Scarlett Johansson. Her name doesn’t really matter, because she’s not that important to the story. Carl has an ex-wife, played by Sofia Vergara, with whom he has a son, Percy (Emjay Anthony). If you think that Carl’s not giving enough real quality time to his son, you’re right. But luckily it’s not nearly that bad. When Carl has a meltdown when famed online food critic (Oliver Platt) gives him a bad review that’s entirely reasonable, Carl gets fired and decides he needs a change. So it’s off to go cross country with sous chef Jon Leguizamo and finally reconnect with his son. And of course, Twitter and social media are a big part of his new venture, which means his son can finally teach his dad something too.
