So, here’s what I made for Mother’s Day

 

momday_150Sooo, how was your Mother’s Day? Did you, um, have a good day with Mom? Did you per-haps forget about my plea for assistance on what to make for Mother’s Day?

I’d completely understand, of course, as you had your own meals to prepare for your wives, daughters, mothers, grandmothers, etc. So, I didn’t expect a ton of responses. But one? And that one from my editor? I’m hurt, nay wounded, by it all! Needless to say, I had to rely on my own wits (which, I admit, are few) to come up with a meal that would please not only the sensitive taste buds of my wife but the extremely finicky tastes of my children.

In the end, here’s what I made: nothing. Instead, I put the family in the van and headed out to Hersheypark, where we indulged in our favorite pastime of eating free chocolate samples. After filling up on sugary treats (including some great peanut butter and chocolate ice cream), our Mother’s Day dinner comprised of subs from our favorite place — Wawa.

However, this doesn’t let you off the hook! First, I, as well as the rest of the CliqueClack Food staff, would like to know what you made for Mother’s Day breakfast/lunch/dinner and if it was a success or not. Second, you now have 364 days to help me out for the next Mother’s Day. I eagerly await your delectable creations.

Wawa–the evil-doers who are always letting stray onions into the iceberg lettuce on their subs. Yes, I do still hold it against them, years later.
Here, we had pizza for Mother’s Day. I had pineapple on mine, which I haven’t had in forever, and it was awesome.

I called my mom and heard all about the joint celebration of Dad’s birthday and Mother’s Day that I missed, which included a whole artichoke appetizer, grilled chicken breast, homemade bread (that ) and homemade rhubarb pie. Mmm. Pie.

Oh. Thanks Molly B for taking my response! Indeed, I pressure cooked some artichokes, made a herbed dipping sauce for them. The no-knead bread was a great experiment and was as delicious as promised in the article. Mom was great and made the pie in honor of Dad’s birthday- so I was totally off the hook for dessert.

Certainly delicious and well appreciated, but Mum always says “anything I don’t have to cook is great…” but I think she liked this more than that!

We ate at my parents’ house, and my dad rotisserie grilled a pork loin and made 2 kinds of BBQ sauce, regular (with cherry I think) and an orange cilantro. My sister made a potato salad with herbs and olives and Keith made flourless chocolate cakes with raspberry coulis, and he will post the recipe!
